Don Wise gets GOP nod, Woerner still emerges victorious

The town of Ulster held their annual caucus Wednesday night to select candidates for town offices and about 256 Republicans participated in what was a true act of democracy. The notable race was for town of Ulster Supervisor, where Incumbent Democratic Supervisor Nick Woerner was challenging Donald Wise for the Republican line. Neither candidate a member of the Republican party but Mr. Wise, a registered Conservative had been endorsed by the GOP's executive committee. (Donald Wise left the Conservative party, after Woerner was given the nod over him.) In the end, Wise was chosen to be the Republican candidate by a vote of 143-86. First let me wish Mr. Wise a congratulations and I'll be watching this race closely. But, let's be honest, this is not a lose for Supervisor Woerner, an incumbent Democrat walked into the lion's den and pulled close to 40% of the vote. It really shows the broad-range support that Nicky has. I'll tell you right now with the exception of maybe Vincent Guido, Wise would not have pulled any votes at the Ulster Democratic caucus. At best, Wise has an uphill battle to defeat the widely popular Supervisor.

I am disappointed you cannot see through the smoke and mirrors here. First of all Nic had to resort to putting the arm on two local business owners who have business relationships with the Town for what were clearly half hearted nominations. Second, for years the Town of Ulster employees controlled the Town Republican Committee. They have lost control. In order to keep the keys to the castle they had to come out and support the King. The true test of the level of love and adoration for the King of the Kingdom will be in November.

Wise will win because of the GOP and GOP leaning independent enrollment advantage. All's not lost for Nicky, though. He has done a good job and has a bright future in politics. He'll be around for a long time as your future Assemblyman, perhaps? Wise is a moron and the majority of the morons in the town of Ulster will get what they deserve come November. GOP=Idiot=Bush=Wise Get the picture?

Don't underestimate the Conservative endorsement. Also, I think people are smart enough to vote for the person and not the party. Woerner will do just fine.

Definitely the lesser of two evils. Ulster has shit choices for Supervisor.
Woerner is bought and paid for by the uptown thug crowd. Wise is on a mission to repay all those who have done him wrong. Sad day for Ulster residents.

The Conservative party is in shambles, thanks to Nick Woerner and John Chrispell. They are not the force they used to be in the Town of Ulster. The split has made them a non entity, equivalent to the Working Families Party. So Jeremy, don't OVERESTIMATE the Conservative endorsement. The Independence party is where the votes are now. Don Wise has that line.

There were enough level headed Republicans in our town to make sure that Woerner, the crooked, paid off, puppet of Al Spada and Steve Aronn got beaten in OUR caucus. If Woerner is so beloved by the Democrats, you should talk to Mike Berardi and some of the other Democrats. If Berardi challenged him, Nick would have been fighting for his life last night because he would have had lost the Democratic line just like he lost the Independence line. Nick is hero to you. He is a buffoon, just like his running mate Charlie Thomas is, to the people in Ulster. You'll see come November what people really think of Woerner.

It's very interesting that two Republicans supported Nicky Woerner and nominated him at the caucus. In the first case, Ozzie Beichert was given a plum job as chairman of the planning board with the promise that Ozzie would switch to non-enrolled. Coincidentally, after the town enjoyed a long-term relationship with a sign company in the Town of Ulster, Nicky switched all the Town's business to Beichert's company, Timely Signs, without benefit of bid or RFP to letter all the police cars. Kevin Ryan, through the Valley Group, insures the town as their agent, once again without bid or RFP. The town was supposed to switch to the DeForest group, but Kevin Ryan had a conniption. So, the deal was that if Valley Group kept the insurance, Kevin would endorse Nick. Nicky scheduled the Republican police officers to work last night in an attempt to intimidate the voters present, so that 6 Republican on-duty police officers would come and vote for Nick. These officers spent approximately 3 hours at the caucus at taxpayers' expense without any request being made by the Republican Committee who organized the event; there was no need for any type of armed security for safety or any other purpose. It should be clear to any responsible business-person or management, including Mr. Ryan or Mr. Beichert, that if we have available 6 police officers to sit around and do nothing for 3 hours, that we have 6 too many police officers. I would bet doughnuts to dollars that neither Mr. Beichert nor Mr. Ryan have six employees in their own business standing around at any one time doing nothing. This is clearly a lack of management skills on the part of Nick Woerner, Paul Watzka, and Joey Sinagra to have 6 police officers being paid by the town at the caucus when they were not needed. They should have been told to go back on road patrol; if we need you, you have radios. Go serve the entire town. The PBA endorsed Nick even before there was another announced candidate. The police department should stay out of politics in any town or city. Supervisor Woerner should pay the town back out of their own pocket for using the Ulster Police for his personal security. Chief Watzka and Lt. Sinagra should apologize to the taxpayers for kow-towing to Nicky.

There will be a lawsuit over these results. The new motto (sorry or is this just a continuation of the old m.o. since the lawyers, I mean Andy runs the party)

You loss, you sue for a do over

Looks like your boy Nickie is going to go negative already. Pointing out Wise did not file his enrollment form is meaningless since it doesn't take effect until after the election anyway. Nickie better be careful. His financial disclosures contain some very interesting donations by town vendors, contractors and employees. Take a look for yourself. That is very dirty money. You don't give hundreds or thousands of dollars as a vendor and not expect something in return.

Assemblyman? Please, we need someone brighter than Nick in Albany.

none of this matters. wise will get stomped

Going negative? I don't think so.. I think Woerner brought up an important point. What if Nick was given the GOP line the other night would Wise have went and handed his switch in? Maybe, maybe not. Just like the D.A. race I have a real problem with people switching parties and trying to manipulate the system to suit their personal agenda.

I do believe we already have an assemblyman who is doing more than a capable job in Albany.

Poor Nick... a one term wonder. He has been depleteing the town of all of it's reserve resources in order to keep from having a tax increase. The next supervisor will HAVE to raise taxes to pay the bills. Nick has already allowed the police budget to go WAY over for the year. He is in BIG trouble. Everyone knows about the over expenditures.
He knows that he is a one term wonder and shown what a looser he is. Rumor has it that he may challenge Independent petitions because he can't win by legitimate means by asking for the support of the people. Even his own committee in the town have already turned their back on him and branded him a looser... a one term wonder.
He fails to return phone calls... even to the largest business center in the town.. Mr Ginsberg... He has been strong arming businesses throughout the town. He is drowning.... gasping for political air. The people have seen his dark side. Rumor has it that even though he got trounced at the Republican Caucus that he may challenge it on a technicality. He will stop at nothing to try to win... but the word is already out. He is loosing his own parties support and is running scared. One has to feel sorry for him. He tried and failed.
