Gilpatric Wins Straw Poll

Judge James Gilpatric won a recent poll that was conducted over a week in a half period for city court Judge. The poll was probably one of the better polls I have conducted as far as participation goes, with well over 500 people participating. I think poll while non- scientific is a true reflection of what will probably be the most competitive race in the city of Kingston this November. Judge Gilpatric is running against J. Michael Bruhn Jr., both men come from good families and are highly respected in the legal community.

Well, I'm still voting for Bruhn. Blaber, I must say I heard that you are a partisan hack after participarting in this poll and reading your blog, well I agree(lol). However, you treated the poll fairly and closed it when you said you would. Thank you for being honest.

Gilpatric is the better candidate not only because of his experience but because he already sacrificed his private practice to become judge. He deserves it. Let Bruhn win some other office down the road. Right now, we want Jimmy as our city court judge.

I'm voting for Jim Gilpatric - Gilpatric and Bruhn are second cousins, and Mike Bruhn is causing a huge rift in the family. Bruhn should never have entered the race for city judge. There are other offices he could've run for (DA, maybe?) that wouldn't have done divided their family and/or the city. If you were applying for a job and your best friend (or relative) knew it and applied for the same job, you'd be ticked off, and rightfully so. Jim Gilpatric sacrificed a lot to take this position, and has been a city judge for 14 years. That doesn't mean he should be annointed, but it does mean he has the experience and knowledge. I hope the voters are smarter than Mike Bruhn, Jr. and will vote for Jim Gilpatric!

Why should the judgeship go to someone just because he already closed his private practice. Is that really a reason to vote for someone. Does that mean he is the better candidate? Both men are qualified. Mike Bruhn, Jr. is the better choice

It has nothing to do with his closing his practice - he's been on the bench for 14 years - did you miss that part? He has the experience and has been an excellent judge. If he wasn't doing a good job, I'd vote him out. I'm voting the candidate who I know will continue to do a great job. I have no idea how good of a judge Mike Bruhn Jr. will be. How do you know he'll be a good judge? Because he's a good lawyer? I don't want to take any chances at this point. There's too much crime in Kingston (sorry Jeremy, I know you don't want to believe that) to take the chance with a "newbie". If neither of them was an incumbent, I'd re-consider my decision. Jim Gilpratic already knows the ropes. The only reason why I mentioned that he closed his practice was to explain that he made a huge sacrifice, and his second cousin is making a move on him - I can't trust anyone who would do that.

Vote for the guy because he's closed his practice...

Vote for another guy because he will keep his appointed people on and his appponent may not...

    What's this world coming to?!?

It has nothing to do with Jimmy closing his practice - it has everything do to with Jimmy having 14 years experience on the bench - why can't you understand that? That's not that complicated. You're obsessing over his practice - obsess (sp?) over his experience. Jimmy's been a judge longer than Mike Bruhn has been a lawyer. I've spoken to several attorneys who all say Jimmy has been a good judge - that's far more important than his closing his practice (which is totally irrelevant). Mike Bruhn may be a great guy, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be a great judge. We have a great judge with Jim Gilpatric.

It seemed very odd that in the 11th hour Jimmy took lead in the poll. For the most part, Mike had been leading by a point or two. Even Saturday Morning. Anyway, not saying anything about rigging, just making a comment. Jimmy is a good guy, but I think it's his time to move on. Mike is determined to take on the tough cases and decide fairly, and what is right for all involved. And although Jimmy does have the judgeship experience, everybody starts somewhere, and Mike's ability to not only handle himself in the courtroom, but also in the community is a great foundation for sitting on the bench.

Alberto Gonzales is out! The mental midget that thought retro-active legislation, torture, and warrantless wiretapping were legal.Maybe we can retro-actively legislate him out of a pardon.

At 5pm Saturday afternoon Bruhn was up by 10 votes. I am real interested in knowing what time did the voting get turned off and what was the vote in the last hour.

As Sargent Schultz used to say Very Intersting!

I do agree with Jeremy on one point, this is going to be a very interesting election. The voters are ready for a change. As we know, and have read, this city is poised for change. Mike can not only help with that change, but he wants to make a difference. He wants to, and is determined to be involved in making this city into something better. And that my friends, is why is he running. Not because he needs a job, Mike has a job. He is a great lawyer. He has the desire to turn Kingston into a great place to live and do it the right way, by listening to the people, counseling those in need and convicting those deserving of punishment. Vote for J. Micheal Bruhn, Jr.
