Everyone and everything will be thrown at Obama to help but his numbers just don't go up. Obama and McCain are in a statistical deadheat and McCain leads in EV's pretty overwhelmingly. Obama might help down-ballot candidates nationwide, but it's at the expense of losing the WH. I don't think electing right leaning Democrats in red states is a worthwhile trade-off for losing women's rights. This is a deal with the devil that really stinks.

Isn't it astounding that after trumpeting the GOP's supposed "demise" to all the world, the Democrats have simply been unable to sew this race up?

John McCain has less money than Barack Obama, is at a technical disadvantage to Obama's use of text messaging and social networking to garner youth support and has 95% of Hollowywood aligned against him. He has his positions on the Iraq war and other issues hanging around his neck. His party was trounced in the Congressional elections two years ago (although the Democrats in Congress have shown the country that they are all talk and no action in the meantime). People are less than thrilled with Bush (but are even less pleased with Congress).

With all these disadvantages, how is it that he is either slightly behind Obama or (in some polls) just a hair ahead of him?

The answer is simple: experience. Like it or not, Obama does not have the background or seasoning to handle major domestic and international problems. In 1988, President Bush's father was running for President with a young Senator named Dan Quayle as his running mate. The Democrats had a field day attacking Quayle's lack of experience, even though he had been a two term Congressman and was in his second term as Senator at the time (12 years total in Congress). Obama is halfway through his first term in the Senate and was never a Congressman (about 3 1/2 years in Congress).

The people of this country are neither stupid nor forgetful. They remember Quayle and are quickly realizing that Obama is far from ready for prime time.

Why not the comparison? Quayle's age and experiance was both mocked and placed under a microscope. Obama might be able to spell potato, but he sure can't add.

  7. I think a more appropriate comparison is that to JFK or RFK
