More on the Freeman's Lack of Understanding

The Freeman claims that they support Jim Quigley because they are endorsing a Democrat for county executive and as a Republican Jim Quigley represents a balance. Now this just shows how little the Freeman knows about the charter form of government and government in general.

If you go by the logic of the Freeman, we had a Republican legislature and a Democratic Treasure during the jail fiasco...so why did we have the jail fiasco? There was no accountability and no real balance.

The charter or Proposition 1 (which Quigley spent thousands of dollars to defeat) is what creates the balance in our government not party affiliation. By having an elected Executive, (C.E.O.) of the county and a comptroller (the advocate/watchdog of county government), we guarantee a county that is accountable with checks and balances.

Furthermore, if we were electing a treasure, than Jim Quigley is the guy with the experience to do the job. However, we are electing a Comptroller, a person who's job is to be the watch dog over county government. Elliott Auerbach knows the business of government and will protect us. Mr. Quigley has ZERO experience in county government and is unqualified to do the job.

Blaber, you're right. You convinced me. The Freeman doesn't know what they're talking about. They endorsed Hein. I'm voting for Bernardo.

Freeman is crap. The true Democrats will vote for the candidates with Democratic Values; BERNARDO & AUERBACH.

Bernardo has NO experience. He has run a campaign full of slime and smear.

Just think of $30 million jail over runs and $800,000 in LERW and you can thank Republican leadership.

Not to mention skyrocketing tax increases during their 28 year reign of power and mismanagement.

If we can blame them for 28 years worth of huge tax increases than how is it that in the democrats first two years in power we haven't seen any huge tax cuts. It would seem to me that after 28 years of huge tax increases the county should be able to afford a tax cut.

    I didn't think so.

Hein and Donaldson should have done a tax cut this year. There is a huge surplus. They should give taxpayers money back to taxpayers. Bernardo is right.

As to Auerbach/Quigley. Jeremy, tell us, what am I missing: aren't we better off with a CPA for comptroller? What am I missing?

You can also thank the Democrat controlled current Legislature for voting this May - YES this past May - to give LERW $56,000 - no questions asked. For anyone who listened to Dave Donaldson this past Saturday on WKNY he mentioned it specifically.

And you'll see why the Freeman won't be around much longer.

Otto, I went to journalregister.com. I didn't see anything about the Freeman. I see that Journal Register is in trouble. Even Geddy at the Kingston Times says the Freeman makes money.

For the record, I have heard all three Candidates speak at the same debate, a debate which Quigly specifically stated he did NOT want to discuss the Jail any further, and that he had no plans on looking into it at all anymore. I understand he is right that many of the statues of limitation have passed up, but I pay taxes and they were millions and millions over the budged and we will be paying over a million bucks a year for 21 years and 5 million for the next 10 years to pay off this debt. I hardly think it is something to be swept under the carpet and he immediately lost my vote with his comment. At least Auerbach knows what is going on, and hes the one that ran down the numbers while Quigly washed his hands of the whole thing... could that have something to do with the fact that alot of the people involved in this are his good friends and contributors?
Also a CPA looks at numbers from the past (which he obviously doesnt want to do) they do not look at the future, which frankly are things we need to take into account. If you do not want to do what your job specializes when your the one who claims theres such a vast difference, than your not the right man. So he doesn't want to look into the past, his job is not to look into the future, than whats his point?

Maybe people commenting should actually comment on merit not just personal opinions formed based on personal affiliations.

8:20, True, but why didn't Geddy buy it for himself? We don't want them.

The Freeman is profitable, and not a bad paper for Kingston people. The Record is not a good paper for the northern part of the county, though the Freeman isn't particularly good for anywhere else. Maybe if it wasn't subject to the many sickman papers in JR's pathetic arsenal the paper could return to its former status as a good daily, which the area needs.
The Kingston Times is good too, in its niche. Certainly more winking going on than with the Freeman, which tends to proclaim canned bullshit with only minimum context.

Of course nothing "guarantees" anything;it is still a gamble on improvement to be seen or not seen.
