vote today

Please vote in the Kingston School Board election today. There are two great candidates running, Jim Shaughnessy and Chris Farrell, both deserve your vote.

In the New Paltz school board race Dan Torres and K.T. Flusser are both superior candidates and they also will do a great job on the board.

I know times are tough but the budgets that have been put together in both the Kingston and New Paltz districts are ones that are sound and responsible, I urge people to VOTE YES on the budget.

What choice do we have in Kingston. If we vote no the austerity budget is higher. Enrollment is down but taxes are up, who knew

I can not vote for any school budget this year that shows an increase in spending and a decrease in enrollment.

Hey blabe...a political columnist did an article about the county court race. He neglected to mention a strong candidate from New Paltz. What's up with that?

Suit yourselves. Vote down education and let crime go up. It's your community that you are poisoning.

Farrell is a joke. No wonder the rest of the board wouldn't re-elect him president.

Give me a break. This community is being poisoned by the various taxing enities that find any way possible to steal the food out of our children's mouths.

Someone needs to go through Crown Street and fire anyone that makes more than 100k. I bet you our children would not see the slightest difference in their education. Then if you were to send out some random pink slips to the schools, our children would see a real increase in the quality of their education. Just put a little fear in the minds of the teachers, then they can live like the rest of us that are constantly looking over our shoulders hoping to keep our jobs.

10:07- Your poverty is showing again. Move away from here, you're too poor. We're not turning back the clock for you slowpokes anytime soon. You're shovelling sand against the sea.

How can you say any increase in spending in these times is responsible. I hate to say it, but there needs to be more layooffs of teachers. If they will not stop with their constant demands for raises, then we will have to live with less of them. How many working people get the types of raises teacher's get each year. It has to stop.

11:06-Apparently there weren't enough well paid teachers to give you a decent education. When people like you aren't showing a need for better education, it'll be time to consider cutbacks. What would business do without a second class to exploit?

    hey 10:29,

I actually work my ass off for a living and make well over 100k with my two hands. I give more than 10% of my earnings to local charities and community groups, and volunteer a crazy amount of time in this community. And you know what, neither you or I are any better than the family struggling on 30k a year or the senior citizen living off of their life savings. The taxes need to stop

So why don't you take your elitist attitude and move away. Because you are the problem that is dragging this once great community down.

I agree, too many raises and too many people making over $100,000 on the backs of the taxpayers. And for toooooo little results.

Ooooh I make over a 100k and give over 10k to charity but I can't afford my taxes. Boo hoo cry baby. Stop evading your taxes and maybe the share everyone else pays will go down. I can't wait until your charitable donations scam gets cut off. You cheating scum make me sick. You don't like paying, beat it!

Hey 6:35, here's a news flash for you; stop donating money and time to enabling organizations that seek to increase the need for the very programs that raise your taxes. You are the root cause of the problem. Charities are a scam that divert money from the government and help poor people stay poor. You're not helping, you're enabling. It's like handing out free bottles of wine to drunks because they can't afford it. Stop giving to make yourself feel better because it isn't working. You want responsible citzenry? Start expecting it. You're being taken for a ride, and you'll always keep losing if you don't wise up.

All you lemmings who voted YES on the budget can go to hell!!!!!!

    CLOSE SCHOOLS NOW

ok, I got it. Don't donate money to charities so that the government can use it for even more expensive programs that do the same thing, which is to addict just as many people to handouts as any charity could hope to.

I never said that I can't afford my taxes. I pay them faithfully. And I don't use charities as a way to evade taxes, I give because I want to help. If I wanted to I could easily use my company for to evade taxes, thanks to our stupid tax laws but I chose to pay like I am supposed to. PS there highspeed: you can't avoid school taxes by giving to charity anyway.

Even if everyone paid their fair share, taxes will never go down as long as we employ people in government to find ways to spend our money.

As for the beat it comment, very funny. How many people need to move out of this state before you figure out that their moving is going to cost us even more. Are you planning on replacing Golisano's 14k per day in income tax to the state. Or even the annoying pain in the ass Rush the drug addict Limbagh are you going to cover his share when he moves. Some how I don't think that you sitting at home on your computer being a blog troll will rplace any of the lost tax money.

The Redcoats labelled Kingston a city of particular "perfidy", meaning, something akin to "moral terpitude."
I wasn't around in 1777 to review this impression by the British Military.
I do however believe that those who keep suggesting that Kingston was "once a great community" never spent any time around politics or politicians. As with all once communities that may have earned the label "great", Kingston has been poisoned slowly over time by politics and policitians but moreover the culture that ensues therefrom-- as has the nation generally. It is only the failure of those under the thumb of politics and politicians who have failed to construct a rebellion anything like that during The Revolution that has left matters with sufficient terpitude, sufficient inertia, that have left things overall unable to progress. It's all about power and always has been. "Politics is power, Mister Garrison, nothing more."--Donald Sutherland as "Mr. X" in the movie "JFK".
If anyone wants to read about how power corrupts, then read the executive summary of the Irish Report released yesterday on the treatment of children in Ireland in Catholic institutions. The original report in its entirety is 2,600 pages. That is a good starting point on the subject of corruption.
Thank you Jeremy for posting this toward letting in a little light about human nature in the face of Catholic dogma about the goodness of mankind against a backdrop of such vicious evil that if celibacy doesn't go now as a policy, there is obviously no hope at all for that organization.

Congrats for using a reference that I popularized as a thread on some local blogs and on public access. The phrase in its entirety might be attributed to K/George III. On October 16, 1777, the British arrived in Kingston and looked upon our little town as a "hotbed of perfidy and sedulous disloyalty to King George the Third and His Majesty's Parliament." I actually put it in at least 5 different posts but nobody knows what sedulous means or perfidy or ‘turpitude’ so look it up folks especially on Memorial Day. Then compare it to how Bush handled his presidential executive powers by supplanting Iraqi authority and burning Baghdad to avenge his bag daddy's honor or whatever. The more things change the more they stay the same just different times different places same names not changed to protect the guilty.

Ok, I cannot believe how many people are against the budget increases for children in our area. Not for nothing, the children are the future of this town, you skimp out on their education the same morons mad about the budget are going to be the little old ladies in their rocking chair calling the cops about the "God damn kids on my street!!!"
You dont want them doing drugs or spray painting walls, or peeing on your fences or egging your cars, but have no problem telling them that they arent worthy of an education because their is not enough of them?
Thats like going into a hospital and telling all the women in maternity to leave because the budget was cut because not enough pregnant women had come in that day.

Children deserve an education, I dont have any kids but I pay my taxes and know that at least those kids are getting the same opportuinities I did. Why dont you take a gander through one of the schools and look at the textbooks, the afterschool activities, the classrooms, the computer labs, and then DARE to come on here and say that there is no need for a budget increase.

If you want the future of our county to be in the hands of toothless drop outs who cant count past 15 because you cut their school funding dont be mad. I dont want to hear any complaints, and you better not be complaining when our taxes go up REGARDLESS because so many of u against the budget will be calling the police on those kids you evicted from their school in the first place.

Shame on all of you, you go tell your kids, friends, nieces and nephews that their educations not worth it.

Get your priorities straight, maybe start donating to schools instead of charities if you want to help out so bad (ON YOUR TERMS) instead of getting pissed off when the county asks you to help the kids out.
