I can't believe all this news coverage about a traffic light.
The common council was one vote shy of getting the traffic light back uptown and getting rid of the stop sign that has been there all of 10 minutes.
Council Prez, Jim Noble broke the tie vote siding to send it back to committee.
Really, Jimmy? I love you to death but you couldn't help DiBella out on this one? She is retiring has NO reason to play politcs with this legislation, she is clearly doing it in the best interests of the residents. Not to mention, it's always been a light, so when the engineers did their original study, they clearly thought it should be a blinking light and not a stop sign.
I'm just saying, DiBella has been a loyal solider, has defended your running mate on several occasions, you should of sided with her on this one.
Can't believe Madsen voted with Hoffay and Reynolds as they are the ones that want to get rid of him. Hoffay has to go he is no good in all ways.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Jeremy:
ReplyDeleteThis is a public safety issue. DiBella is right on the mark with this one.
Which is more important? Helping out a couple of business owners who want stop signs or the safety of the residents?
Tom Hoffay has not learned that being a public servant means serving in the best interests of ALL and not just his friends.
These people are idiots. There is no one in favor of those stop signs except the jerks who voted for them. After the first accident, and there will be an accident, we will see the lights go back. I have almost been broad sided twice since they went up and I only go through there once or twice a day. They should hope no one gets hurt. Your right Dibella is not playing politics, but Noble clearly is. We seem to have a little clique going on the common council and given Dibella is leaving, Noble does not want to be left out of it. Why he thinks he needs to side with Hoffay or Reynolds is beyond me. They are both snakes and would abandon him in a hear beat if it suited their purposes.
ReplyDeleteHoffay and Noble just don't get it. This is a sad state of affairs we have going on in Kingston. We are drowning in a bad economy, which appears to be getting worse in Kingston. Uptown looks like a ghost town and all the alderman can talk about it changing traffic lights that have been working just fine for decades. And there are now more stop signs uptown than there are businesses. The only thing that tops the number of stop signs is the number of empty storefronts. Are these people really this stupid? Or I guess the better question is are we?
ReplyDeleteBull****......... When were you so high and mighty on DiBella?
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, we are now taking traffic safety tips from
ReplyDeleteAnnMarie "Crash under questionable circumstances" DiBella?
Please check your heads folks!
These stop signs are awesome. You people that are upset about it need to learn how to drive. They should take down more traffic lights in Kingston. I am tired of waiting at them.
ReplyDeleteThis state is the only one with people that are so retarded they need traffic lights everywhere to help them to drive.
Has anyone taken the time to see that the light is blinking. We are facing very difficult times ahead. STOP WASTEING TIME ON THIS LIGHT. State law says you must stop for pedestrians that are in a crosswalk.
ReplyDeleteJim Noble actually SPOKE or even VOTED on an issue?? Jim has a reputation of being a bit spineless when it comes to standing up for or against issues. Unless of course it will benefit him and his. Once in awhile he may make an apearance on some remote A.m. radio station but thats as good as it gets from Jim. I agree Jeremy he did let folks down last night but I really dont expect much from spineless Noble!
ReplyDeleteJeremy,Dibella got run out of town,I wouldnt say she is retiring!! Having said that, she is right on this situation uptown. And also, you never know whats goin on with Jimmy Noble,he is a sneaky dude. He sort of has that look and speech about him too dont he,sneaky like?
ReplyDeleteSo we move from two years of arguing about parking meters to months of arguing about a traffic light versus a stop sign. How many years did the community argue about the traffic roundabout versus the traffic circle.
ReplyDeleteNow, we are going to argue about whether DiBella, Madsen, Noble and Hoffay should vote on traffic issues as individuals or based upon some sense of party loyalty.
Who cares?
Stop wasting time and address real issues that impact the uptown business community. I am pretty sure that no uptown business has succeeded or failed based upon the presence or absence of a traffic light on Wall Street.
How about asking Jon Hoyt who has run his business on the corner at issue for decades, someone who has spent countless hours standing on that very corner speaking to his friends and neighbors as cars and pedestrians pass by.
Oh, I forgot, why should we seek guidance from someone with real knowledge of the issue when he has the audacity to run as a republican against Tom Hoffay.
This is all really silly.
Anyone ever been to any of the thriving small communities throughout the east coast where traffic laws require all cars to yield to pedestrians in cross walks. Drivers deal just fine.
Oh, once again I forgot, people in Kingston can't learn anything from people who have not spent their entire lives in Kingston.
the Stop signs are far better than the two traffic lights within 25 feet of each other.
ReplyDeleteand wait until the city decides to change the flow of traffic so that Wall Street and Fair Street go in opposite directions.
Crosswalks aren't painted.
ReplyDeleteReynolds wants to run for Mayor, he should run for his life as he is useless as an Alderman and the people in his ward relaize that also.

ReplyDeleteNew York State Vehicle and Traffic Law Article 27 Section 1151. Pedestrians right of way in crosswalks.
(a) When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk on the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, except that any pedestrian crossing a roadway at a point where a pedestrian tunnel or overpass has been provided shall yield the right of way to all vehicles.
There is something fishy with your devotion to DiBella. She get's no trouble with the law after her purely 'innocent' accident. And then there is you. I wonder if I follow up on your exodus from K-town after some trouble, if Ann Marie's name will show up.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't traffic lights go to blinking lights between 10pm and 6am?
ReplyDeleteWhy does Kingston have so many no right turn signs?
Why does Kingston erect traffic signs that are hazardous to pedestrians(walkers) and bicycle riders because the bottom of the signs are lower than 7 feet required so faces, chins and heads get hit - don't we have a City Engineer or are we trying to make money for O'Connor, Hepner and Basch?
Let's not forget to include in the study the new Tischler Tower being built where the old parking garage was and the illegal steps down to the new lot remain (didn't the bidding specs say they were to be replaced?
ReplyDeleteTurko-Levin, Hoyt, landi (no other choice), Edwards, Cahill, Ball, Gill, Langdon, and Brown is how the council should look Jan 1 2010
ReplyDeleteNoble needs new faces to look at and we need new ideas.
The issue of the traffic control at N Front and Wall will be on the agenda for Public Safety on Wed Aug 26 @ City Hall.

ReplyDeleteJim Maloney, really Jeremy? The Democrats hate him, the Republicans hope he loses and Woerner will fire him if he wins again. Add in the Wadnola ad and Cahill must be very pleased with you right about now. I thought you were a Democrat? Your blog is covered with Republicans!
ReplyDeleteThats like you said Hinchey is supporting Gilda. Not the case.
ReplyDeleteShow me the money.
ReplyDeleteA guy has to make a living.
Kingston is a pig pen - and the shop owners, landlords, hired City employees, elected leaders and citizens who tolerate this are all to blame.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious the more time and money spent on these little and unimportant items the less time the taxpayers will have to question them on LACK OF JOB CREATION AND TAXES GOING UP AND UP!!!
ReplyDeleteI want to know what is wrong with Richard Cahill? He is like the Wizard of Oz, a little man hiding behind the curtain with his toes all curled up.
ReplyDeleteHe continually attacks people's integrity. Now he is attacking Jean Jacobs. I have known Ms. Jacobs for almost ten years, and I can assure the public that her ONLY intention was to serve the public, not to deceive anyone!! If he wants to get personal....let's go. How about the fact that his wife threw a tantrum at the court house the other day when the security officer tried to look through her purse. She had a fit and refused to let them do so. The officer told her to "lose the attitude" or she'd be outside.
She had a camera that he confiscated. Who did SHE think she was? Kingston Royalty? Little Cahill just stood there, stammering. An unfortunate urchin like Richie Cahill should look in the mirror before he starts attacking other people's character.
Let me ask the public this...what has Richard Cahill Jr. done for this community of note? That's right. NOTHING. NOT ONE THING....except to sit on his blog and call people names.
He had better know one thing...what goes around, eventually does come around. Wait till the law firm he works for realizes that he is losing them business...then maybe he will wake up. Until then, he needs to know that people are watching and making sure he doesn't buy any guns. His personality is the type who will shoot up a place when he finally snaps. There, Richie...how do YOU like it??
there has been an unwritten "rule" amongst Aldermen for umteen years.
ReplyDeleteIf I want a stop sign erected in my ward, go with it.
Given that DiBella's Ward does not cover North Front why would she get in the thick of this mess? Stay out!

ReplyDeleteBlaber, you have turned on all the Democrats in the Town of Ulster. You are some nice guy.
ReplyDeleteIs it true Rich Cahill met his wife on the internet in a toy chat room? I hear she still likes toys. Big Toys!

ReplyDeleteJeremy, gettin' busy with the "remove post" button. I almost forgot about the no negatives on DiBella rule.
ReplyDeleteWhere is DiBella and Hoffay in correcting the illegal steps left to be used where the old Parking garage was demolished. The plans said to install new ones - hmm ?
ReplyDeleteNice turnaround for Cahill. All is not lost for Ulster Democrats!
ReplyDeleteWay Out of Town is not Joe DiFalco. It's Ellen DiFalco.
ReplyDeleteAre Kingston taxpayers paying for Sottile's no comment blog Kingston Moving Forward?
ReplyDeleteSilly, silly. What is wrong that you think the ONLY people who blog on here defending what is right have the last name of DeFalco? Wrong, wrong, wrong. And what does it matter? Pay attention to WHAT I am writing.
