Alderwoman DiBella; Please Resign

I was saddened to learn yesterday that Alderwoman DiBella is continuing to support a non-Democrat for the office of District Attorney, and is going so far as to host a fund-raiser for this person at her home. Mrs. DiBella has the right to support whom ever she wants. However, as an Ulster County Democratic Committeewoman to publicly work against the Democratic candidate is against the rules and unfortunately that is exactly what she is doing.

So, I respectfully ask that Mrs. DiBella resign as a committee person. By resigning it will allow Mrs. DiBella to support her candidate and save her from a formal hearing where she would be ousted. This really is an important move, what Mrs.DiBella fails to realize or just chooses to ignore is that her support for this candidate does not only effect Jonathan Sennett, the Democratic Candidate for D.A., but it also effects City Court candidate, Judge James P. Gilpatric and Aderman-at-Large James Noble who very well may not have the Independence and Conservative lines that the candidate she supports has. There is also the option that Mrs. DiBella call off her fundraiser and do the right thing........I won't hold my breath.

Blame Sottile, Jeremy. She has ALWAYS followed the mayor's lead on EVERYTHING.

Another thing, how do you equate votes for Bradley into votes lost on other races? You think someone, convinced by DiBella, voting for Bradley is going to pull the conservative row? What, are dems too lazy or zombied to select their candidates column by column? What is likely to happen is the folks INFORMED to vote for Bradley, may pull the dem or liberal line, then change their vote for DA. Informed voters don't make stupid mistakes.

DiBella is joining a new group of "Democratic Women" in Ulster County. Headed up by Bonnie Landi and Jeannette Provanzano. Who do they all support? Sadly, it's Vincent Bratley, Jr.

They all should be ashamed of themselves. Bratley got three chances with county Democratic leaders and was voted down three times. What could be more Democratic then that?

Take the energy they are wasting now and put it toward solving problems in the Democratic party not causing them.

Troy Ashdown also must go for his continued support of Cahill and Walker. I agree DiBela and I'll add Ringwood and Landi need to be removed.

VINCENT BRADLEY IS COMING TO 1818!!!

Sorry, but the momentum is shifting... Bradley will win. I hear that Holley, on the advice from Al Spada and others will drop out of the race.

Hee Hee.. Sorry, Jeremy. Things ain't gonna Change!!!! YOU sir, will pay the price for going against your friends and supporting this insurgent Sennett.

    DiBella will be Mayor someday.
You will be out. Out of everything.

  9. If Carnright drops out of the race Sennett will win by an even wider margin then he will with the two of them in there. Bradley will not win and we all know that. As for DiBella... she very well could be mayor someday, more of a reason for her to back a winner for D.A. and to stop being so thick.

To be consistent, you should call for the resignation of Jim Sottile as committeeman.

What ever happened to party loyalty? I know a lot of people say they vote for the 'best person", but what about being loyal to the people who voted for you? Most Dems vote for Dems and most Reps vote for Reps.

This nonsense of supporting or promoting people from other parties has to stop.

Voters need choices of ideology. When all of the cross endorsement happens, it blurs the line and you can't tell who stands for what!

I think it is high time that stricter party rules are put in place to penalize those party officals who decide to stray and put self promotion or self preservation before their party of enrollment.

    Jeremy...

Sottile is an ardent, and very PUBLIC supporter of Bradley and you know it. He did indeed coordinate the gathering of signatures, even though he didn't personally witness petitions.

Plus, he is sharing a campaign headquarters with Bradley!

    Come on...at least be consistent.

By the way, I agree that if Carnright dropped out of the race (HIGHLY unlikely...that poster is living in dreamland), then Jonathan's winning margin would be even wider.

The tide IS turning, the more voters that Jonathan meets, the broader his base of support becomes. People are starting to get it it....Bradley is a dud...a lacklustre candidate at best....and not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous8:46 AM

Sottile is sharing a campaign headquarters with Bradley and he donated $400 TO Bradley's campaign.

You cannot have it both ways. Sottile should resign too.

As for Ashdown, he is supporting Cahill. However, putting a sign up for Lenny is not an offense. Like it or not, Lenny is still an enrolled Democrat. Cahill and Bradley are not.

DiBella, Ashdown, Sottile, and Provenzano should all resign from the committee. I heard the state DNC is looking into their public support (someone must've complained) and they may either be asked to resign or brought up on charges (other committeepeople, too). If they don't resign on their own, they'll be publicly humiliated. DiBella is so far up the mayor's ass you can't tell where he ends and she begins. DiBella should be the first to resign...she hasn't done anything for the committee anyway. It's all about herself, her money, and her power.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous9:51 AM

Since Walker is supposedly a Democrat and is in a primary against Noble, Ashdown shouldn't have to resign from the committee for supporting him until after he loses the primary. But, if Walker wins the primary (what are the chances?), then Ashdown is supporting the Democratic endorsee. As far as Cahill goes, I hope Ashdown can separate the union endorsement from the committee endorsement and still go for Sottile.

If Holly quits then you'll see Bradley on the republican line as well. If this happens Bradley will win by a landslide. Sennett is a terrible candidate who has the same 20 people at his fundraisers each week. When John looses I hope his idiot supporters go too.

To 8:35 p.m. - you say "when Jon looses" - did you mean "loses"? If you're calling his supporters idiots, you've denigrated 67% of the county committee, who represent that portion of the Democrats in Ulster County. Bratley is the "looser" - and he's an idiot. He came up to the sticks thinking that he had this race sewn up - Parete, Cahill and Spada all told him there's no way he could "loose". He's a spoiled brat and a sore "looser". DiBella should resign because she's publicly supporting a non-Democrat "looser". The other committeepeople who voted for Bratley shouldn't have to resign if they're now either supporting the endorsed candidate - Jon Sennett - or not doing anything. If you don't believe in the candidate, then you're not required as a committeeperson to support or work for that person. However, the by-laws clearly state that you are not allowed to publicly support (no one can tell you how to vote) anyone other than the Democratic candidate. Clearly, you totally lack any understanding of the expectations of a committeeperson - as does AnnMarie DiBella (and Sottile).

Yur request to have Alderwoman DiBella resign is ridiculous. Do we not live in the United States of America where we can support anyone we choose? Don't tell me that you have never, ever gone into the voting booth and voted for anyone but a Democrat! If I am correct, the actual invitation to the fund raiser for Bradley is from both MR and Mrs Dibella. Are you saying that her husband is incidental to the marriage. Shame on you.

Ms. DiBella has a very good day job working as a social worker for the Kingston School District. She has tenure and she makes far more than she would make as mayor and she works far less hours. Why would she would resign from a lifetime position from which she really cannot be fired to run for a position that results in a significant paycut. Let's be real.

8:45 - you can support or vote for whomever you want. But, as a committeeperson, you are an elected official elected to represent your party's enrollees. The by-laws are clear - if you publicly support (what you do in the voting booth is your business) a non-endorsed candidate, you can be brought up on charges or asked to resign. Because committeepeople are elected, they can't be "thrown off".

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous1:10 AM

Interesting comments earlier about the attempted removal of Saugerties committeepeople a couple of years back.

So - Charles Landi is supporting Bradley? Is this the same Charles Landi that was on Chairman Parete's
Saugerties Removal committee - the same Charles Landi that VOTED to remove the Saugerties committeepeople - some of whom had been party leaders (in the town and county) for over 20 year? Yes - it's him.

And what about Sottile. He's supporting Bradley. Is this the same Sotile that a few years back endorsed Rep. Gov. Pataki instead of supporting the Dem. candidate for govenor? Yes - it's him!

And Parete is involved in all of this. Once again, Democrats show that they can't handle power. Just like 1977 when they controlled the County Legislature, they blew it (all the infighing and that bright idea of a zero $ tax). This time around, they may get lucky because the Republicans locally and state wise and nationally are so awful. But - you just know that it won't take long - Democrats in this county are setting themselves up for another fall. They just don't get it.

    Where's the leadership?

Jeremy - It sounds like you are worried. Can you honestly say that you have always entered a voting booth and voted for ALL Democrats? I highly doubt that. You just aren't man enough to wear your heart on your sleeve. As far as Alderwoman having a fund raiser for Mr. Bradley, I have seen the invitation. It clearly indicates that this fund raiser is being hosted by Bob and Ann Marie DiBella. Are you indicating that Mr. DiBella does not count in his household? Talk about not being true to a party - what about the male gender party.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous8:48 AM

To 1:10 AM - At least you understand the problem - you've certainly summed it up well. The problem is exactly as you stated: no (or poor) leadership. If Parete stepped up to the plate and said that he won't tolerate support of a non-endorsed candidate, much of this infighting (support for Bradley, the second UCDW who can't figure out that there already is one) would be reduced (I can't say cease). By Parete staying out of it because he really wanted Bradley (Gollnick is at fault, too), they've given rise to a free-for-all in the Committee. Anyone can support whomever they want. A good leader would never allow this to happen within their own party. And, if the Republicans weren't in such disarray, they would jump on this and take over in a heartbeat.

As a register voter, with no party affiliations, I am appalled at the Democratic Party in the City of Kingston and the County. From reading this blog and my own interactions and observations with my elected officials, I am seriously considering why I continue to live here, pay taxes and work here.

DiBella is a "shining" example of what's wrong. She has denied citizens their right to petition their government. She wouldn't let a significant group to speak on behalf on the Crime Task Force Bill at her committee meeting. She pushed for the demolition of the Matthew Berger House in Midtown, while she supports more tax dollars to help RUPCO build the most expensive "affordable" housing project in the history of Kingston, the restoration on the Kirkland. She pushed to sell the house on Elmendorf to her friend for the lowest bid. The original bids were $44,000, $30,000 and $12,000. Now she flaunts the by-laws she has SWORN to up-hold.

There is very little in her record or her rhetoric, (She told the press that supporters of the Crime Task Force Bill were PROFILERS, setting us up for retaliation in our homes and streets, as well as miscontruing our intent and our goals, without hearing our intent and goals.) that is Democratic, in my opinion.

She tried to force through COMPLUSIVE BAGGING, which would have been another nickel and dime scheme to wring more money from the taxpayers' pockets.

As a voter, a homeowner and a citizen, I ask the Democratic Party in Ulster County to investigate and remedy this situation quickly and publicly. I also ask the voters to review DiBella's statements to the press, review her stand on crime, on taxes and fees, on the quality of life of her constituents in Midtown. Her decisions have not been in the best interest of the residents of Kingston, affluent or low-income.

The 2007 version of John Parete is a problem for Democrats. He has done all he can do for the County Democrats. His leadership and past success is appreciated but, it is time to choose new leaders. Thank you and don't let the door hit you on the ass.

your comments about Charlie Landi Are correct!! He also spent thousands of dollars of the TAx payers money by throwing a hissy fit over a child's tree house. this waste of tax pyers money was after he was out of office. Thank god the voters of the 3rd ward are rallying around Pat Carrol. IF the signs of political support are any indication. Mr Landi should just go back to his cave and continue his sulking since the last time he was defeated. Mr Landi has a motive to get back in office, hile we don't know what it is. I'm sure it will be self serving. Mr Landi's supposed democratic supporters have been heard remarking in private that while they post his signs in their yards. They wouldn't vote for him even if he was running against George Bush.

parete thought a primary was best for party, senett and his cronies beat parete up for his stance. Now senetts campaign is floundering and will most likely come in third and its all john paretes fault. One thing is clear parete knows how to win races and the jerks that don't work with him (zimet and senett)do not win. I hear senett is actually looking for way out. He knows he is in over his head.

There is nobody in Ulster County who could do half as much as john parete has done for this party. Its time to get rid of hector, sue, julie, mike, sal, ann, dave and a few others. They would be nowhere without the success parete has had.

to 5:10 pm - if Parete thought a primary was best for the party, why did Cahill tell Julian Schreibman and Jon Sennett in April that primaries are bad for the party? Do Parete and Cahill (both Bradley supporters) disagree on this issue? Parete only wanted a primary because his boy didn't win June 4th. He told Beisel, Ricks and Engel to bow out after McGinty won at the convention. Why was a primary bad then but good now? Only because Sennett won.

Quite frankly, the Democrats are in power DESPITE Parete.

He backed Beisel for Family Court. He tried to get Hochburg to challenge VanBlarcum. And I even heard through the grapevine that he secretly backed Gruner for Surrogate Court.

He actively recruited Democrats to primary against incumbent Democratic Legislators 2 years ago, and did so again this year.

He has personally interfered with municipal elections by (not so) secretly working with the Independence Party to withhold endorsement from people he doesn't like.

He still refuses to recognize that optical scanning machines are the only safe choice for secure elections in our county.

He's a liar and a cheat, and not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

He has done more to divide this party in the last 3 years than anyone in recent memory.

His leadership skills are non-existent, and his morals are even worse. I'll be glad to see him gone next year.
