What's Next?

Who would of thought that Susan Zimet who many think of as someone that is a polarizing figure and a party divider, now has a unique opportunity to unite the Ulster County Democratic Committee. Yesterday by dropping out of the race she took the first step, she should take a week or so to lick her wounds and endorse Mike Hein for County Executive. We can all go into the June convention as a united party.

Unless Kevin Cahill decides to run a last minute effort for County Executive, which has been rumored, Mike Hein will be the next County Executive. The real race was securing the Democratic nomination and Mike has all but done it. Today was a good day for Democrats and an awful disappointed day for Mario Catalano and company.

Susan Zimet will beat Bonacic this time. I for one will be glad to see Bonacic return to private life.

Lick her wounds? Susan's not wounded...she merely realized her heart's not in it. It's not like she got her ass handed to her at the convention and then she withdrew; then she'd be licking her wounds. For you to invoke that expression, it appears that you're taking so much pleasure in Susan's withdrawal that you see this as cowardice on her part.

Yes, by Susan's actions the party is automatically united in this race - as long as the Hein camp doesn't gloat, while those who supported Susan now work for Hein to make sure the GOP candidate doesn't get in.

Thank you Susan for droping out of the race. It would have been ugly and further divide the Dems. Now lets see what Sennett does to further his own political ambitions at the destruction of the Dem Party.

I beg to differ. Zimet would have had an uphill battle against Hein. She dropped out because she couldn't muster the support or finances to beat Hein.

This decision shows voters that she is very impulsive and lacks the focus to hold a position of importance such as the county executive.

It is highly unfortunate that Susan put her own decision ahead of the success of the Democratic party. She could have really made jaws drop on Sunday by putting her support behind Hein. That would have been the classy and appropriate thing to do.

In the end, it remains "All about Susan."

Let's move on and get a Dem elected to the highest office in Ulster County. United we stand, divided we fall.

Personal agendas should not be placed above who is the best and most qualified candidate for the job.

Once Kevin enters the race, you'll be divided again.

12:26 appeals for unification, yet trashes Susan. You don't stop at berating her for her alleged lack of class and appropriateness, you continue with "[It's] All about Susan." You want to unify? Stop the name-calling. Make it more palatable for Zimet supporters to now work for Hein - your negativity propagates divisiveness. Cut the crap; we should be thankful that Susan was unselfish enough to withdraw when she did for whatever reason(s). That's more than you can say for a 2007 county-wide third-party candidate who couldn't figure out when to withdraw from a race he could never win. That's why we're divided, remember?

    You dems are soooo funny.

By Susan dropping out does not create a automatic united party. There are soooo many divisions/factions that its laughable.

Its happening at the party level and at the County level...and if you don't believe me attend some Legislature meetings [both at the committee and full body level].

We should be thanking Sue for pulling out of the race? No way! She should not have gotten in to begin with.

9:59 - lest you forget, this is a democracy. Everyone has a right to run. What makes this country great is that we have choices - at the polls, it's called voting. Since when is it your call to determine who should and who should not enter a race?

I hope Cahill goes for it - what kind of Democracy do we have when it only the good ol Kingston boys?

Susan Zimet made a classy move. This was destined to be an ugly race and judging from the comments about her by the children on this board, that would have been the case.
Susan has been a good public servant and brought at least some honor and honesty to the table in doing so. She was never afraid to buck the party bosses in favor of those she had represented.
ALsa, as someone who has been around types from BOTH parties, it would be an honest assessment by me to type that she is one of the RARE politicians and politicos who does not make me blow chunks when they are in my presence.
You need both Ms. Zimet and Mr. Hein in some sort of leadership capacity in Ulster County because of what both can bring to the table. Until all of the UC Dems can realize that, they will continue to take their majority voters' support for granted leading to their demise.

Zimet is not a leader. Period.

For all those that think this matters. Mike Hein DOES NOT live in Kingston. He was raised in Port Ewen and now lives in Hurley with his wife and son. So find another crazy issue to crow about. Heaven forbid you judge Mike Hein based on his qualifications.

the only thing zimet shoud run for is the county border. good riddance!

No one has mentioned Mike Hein's residence - why are you bringing it up? Unless you're voting for your representative, it never should be an issue. Nowhere on this thread (or anywhere else that I've seen) has anyone mentioned where he lives. Apparently you think it matters, or you wouldn't have said anything.

I would love to see Cahill enter the race. I want someone who has a proven record and at his core is a Democrat. Someone who the public has selected through their votes, not a candidate appointed by the party operatives.

8:32 read 9:42, "good old kingston boys". My comments were meant for those that feel "Kingston" is less deserving than Towns through out the County.
(there are some Town Chairs and Legislators that have been trying to undermine the status of Kingston Democrats ever since the Sennett race.
Its to remind everyone Kingston is as much a part of Ulster County as any Town or village.
