Breaking News: Solid Sources Say Sottile is Calling it Quits

Mayor Jim Sottile will NOT be running for reelection next year according to very reliable sources close to Kingston's Chief Executive. Sottile has made too many enemies and he knows he cant win and does not care anymore said the source.

Mayor Sottile held his annual boat ride that usually is two full trips of about 300 people a ride, last nights ride had just one trip with a mere 150 people, barely filling half the boat. We hear Jimmy was calling people Wednesday afternoon giving tix away to fill seats.

Mayor Sottile has become an embarrassment for the Democratic party and no one with a future in politics wants to be tied to him. Only one Alderman, Charles Landi, attended Sottile's cruise last night...( the council is 7-2 Dems), no county legislators from Kingston were there either.

Matter of fact the only two elected officials that attended were County Exec Mike Hein and Ulster Supervisor James E. Quigley...( which could be the exec's race next year...how ironic)

With Mayor Sottile being forced out of the race, the field of Democrats will widen. James Noble, Bill Reynolds, Mike Madsen, Hayes Clement, David Donaldson...it will be a huge field. Alderman at Large Noble and Majority Leader Reynolds are both in good positions to take the Dem nomination but it's really anyones race and anyone can do a better job than Sottile.

Kingston residents should be happy to know that Hiz Honor is on another two week vacation...we all know he deserves it, that graffiti does not clean itself up.

JEREMY, Sottile is truly a lame duck, and next year will be duck season. All kidding aside, Jim Noble SHOULD NOT get the endorsement of Democratic party, he is up to his ass and elbows in all the dysfunction that the SOTTILE<NOBLE TEAM perpetrated on the city. He needs to share the blame with Sottile, he enabled him and ran as a close running mate of HIS ASSHOLE,oops, I mean HIZZONER. Noble is sneaky and trys to stay back of limelite, but make no mistake he is Jimbo's partner.

I could have told you this 3 months ago. From a VERY reliable source.

Mayor Sottile could go down as possibly the most fucked up mayor kingston ever had in office. What a buffoon! The picture you have of him says it all!! This asshole needs to go sell hotdogs and hamburghers somewhere, with zero responsibility. lol

11:24 is correct, Jim Noble needs to be held accountable for the total mess that he and his partner in crime, as they say, have done to this city. He and Sottile do fundraisers together because they are a team, so we cant lose sight of that. Noble has said publically on more than one occasion that "crime is down". What the fuck is this guy smoking over there on Roosevelt Ave.?? When Sottile goes, he needs to go too.

Another one bites the dust. He was never meant to be the front guy. He was the guy who made sure the coffee pot was on, the dinner reservations were made, tee times set and that T.R. always looked good. Once he had the spotlight shone on him, you could see his warts in living color. It isn't his fault, but he should have recognized he was not cut out for the job right away. Nothing wrong with being council president, he could have easily went back to that job, went back to work for the state and be looking at retirement now with all his friendships intact, his future bright and his legacy being that of a guy who stepped in when he had to and did the right thing in the end.

Like most weak people, he let his ego get in the way and he will go down as one of the worst Mayors in Kingston's history. What's worse is no one really gives a shit. Good riddance Sottile!

Anyone can do better? So, if the race was Rich Cahill vs. Sottile, you would support Cahill? Or would you put your persaonl positions aside and just vote Democrat like a good little drone??

Madsen.............puhleeeeeze!!Get real! Needs to get his house in order, literally.
The Mayor is a pleasant guy off the job but when it comes to mayoral duties, he was a dismal failure. Can't hide from the public in times of trouble. Must be racking up quite a few frequent flyer miles by getting out of town.

Noble has no prayer with the hopes of being Mayor.

i think Mike Madsen would make a great mayor
when he was a councilman he showed that he can and would look past party lines

11:24, I am feeling ya, Noble is no good for the city. He has failed the taxpayers in a big way. You Know, Alderman-at- Large is a position that represents the WHOLE city, not just a ward. Take a look at the "beatiful" mess he and that nutsy Mayor created on thier watch in Kingston. He should stick to plumbing, and not waste our time as a politician that doesn't cut the mustard.

Jimmy Noble is a huge part of the problem along with the other incumbents that have truly K.O.d the city of Kingston. He is a good ole boy that really has nothing to offer except more bullshit which he is good at. He has family on the payroll, and that has GOT TO STOP! We need to make a clean break from the incumbents that have been in power for years. If there is a primary in the Democratic Party, i will not vote for Noble.

I get a kick out of your Mayoral poll with Madsen & Reynolds as the only viable contenders. Will you have a mock runoff with these two to see who faces Joe?

I'm curious who your readership thinks should run the city.

Rich, do us all a favor and stay out of the mayors race. ...

Jeremy your getting killed by MOJO Roberti fire back does anyone have pictures of no-show Joe. What about a story on how he chaired the Health Dept during all the problems. Was Palens taking care of him? How? Come on or won't the bernardos let you

He will propose another 14% tax increase for 2011 to add to the 45% increases he has grabbed during his term in office.

The hole Democratic majority is the blame for the dysfunction of the City of Kingston. The supervisors they hired under their watch have not performed well and are the reason the Parks look like crap as well as the DPW employees not performing very well. When any team in any sport under perform the first person to leave is the manager. Our Team DPW and Rec. department need new managers (foreman), they can not motivate their players.

Why criticize Sottile because of a nationwide economic depression. He raised wages (and our taxes)to City employees every single year he was in office and he spread a lot of money around to certain mostly local contractors and consultants. He can't be blamed now - he is making decisions correct for the times we are in.

4:31 Are you out on Roosevelt Ave smoking with Noble. Sottile/Noble and the rest of the democrats made terrible decision regarding the unions. They raised salaries, including thier own, over 25% since they were in office. Did nothing to stem the tide of out of control medical insurance. They gave away the store with dental and eyeglass insurance also.

They also took care of there friends and family. Giving free life time health insurance to part time workers. (Jim Rodden)

A major issue that has been neglected for many decades is the infrastructure (roads and sewers) and each Mayor for the last few decades failed to address that issue due to it being an unpopular decision. Hate to raise the taxes of property owners but here we are now. Can't get re-elected or win if taxes go up was the mantra. We now desperately need the repairs and now we really have NO money and the citizens this time, definitely, cannot afford a tax increase. I would have preferred to have this problem corrected a few mayors ago when the economy was humming along.
That is the legacy of Sottile. He failed to do what was necessary & unpopular and thus continued ignoring the problem under the streets. Granted, he inherited the neglect but neither did he act on the problem. It was all about getting re-elected. I think this time he is going to be sent packing for a lack of courage in his first term. In fairness he shares that dubious award with the common council especially with the longterm career aldermen.
They know who they are.

12:58 - I can't say I disagree with you, but this attitude was Koenig's as well. He was the one who, while bent on beautifying downtown Kingston instead of addressing the aging infrastructure, replied that nobody sees what's under the streets.

I remember when that wacko Karen Vetere ran and she was saying how much the sewers needed upgrading. Did she really want Kingston to bond for upwards of $100M? That's what it would cost...and instead of that amount being spread around among UC residents, it'd just be Kingston.

So, instead of being proactive, every administration is reactive.

8:01. It would have been a lot cheaper back then. And now, it is probably out of reach of the common taxpayer in Kingston. It has to be done. we can no longer ignore the problem. Each year we delay the price goes up. And to pray to the almighty Federal Government to help might fall on deaf ears. where was that pork when we needed it.??? We spent it on a more visual outcome. But when the S#$%^*T hits the street or peoples basements it won't be invisible anymore and in the interest of Public Health it will have to be done at great cost. I have always wanted a Mayor who will take care of the city first and anything else after that would be fine.
As to Vetere's statement she wasn't to far off the mark. You have to give her credit for at least recognizing the problem and was willing to address it.

absolutely, 11:56 - but there's no way we could afford it all at once. What should be done is an incremental replacement. You can't wait until a road collapses or people's basements get flooded with raw sewage. Instead, every administration has ignored this decades-old problem. And as you pointed out, it's not going to be cheaper the longer we wait...
