Handicapped Kingstonians Need Not Apply with Cahill

Richard Cahill, Republican candidate for mayor is at it again first he tries to take away money earmarked for a handicapped bathroom at the Art Society of Kingston. Now he's setting up a campaign headquarters on the second floor of the Koenig Building which is not handicapped assessable and is not compliant with the American Disability's Act.

Now, Chirs Koeing, a Sottile supporter, owns the building and is grandfathered in and under compliance with all state laws. However, Rich Cahill sure is being inconsiderate for putting his headquarters in such a poor location that excludes many members of Kingston, particularly senior citizens that can't get up to his headquarters. Surely with the "lack of business" in Kingston that Cahill always talks about there should be plenty of spaces for him to rent a space that can accommodate all people. Kingstonians should be disappointed but not surprised by Cahill's choices.

Anyway, people who share in our frustrations can always go to the Sottile/Noble Headquarters on Grand Street...open to everyone not just certain people.

You mean that YOU can't make it up to the office, Jeremy.

I doubt if this was a deliberate slight against the handicapped. It is more likely that Mssrs. Cahill and Walker took the best offer they could on a place as oon a they could, on busy Broadway.

Beside that... it's a campaign headquarters for crying out loud, not a permanent office!

Stop kissing all the special interest @ss!

What a moron, maybe I should just sit by my computer and get an absentee balot. If it were up to Cahill maybe that would be what happened. I was leaning toward Cahill becasue I see him on t.v. same reason why I voted for you. I'm willing to listen to what Sottile has to say, when is his headquarters opening? I'm assuming I can get in alright?

Come on Blaber, there's no need to attack him on every single little detail you can think of. Stick to the real issues of crime, economic development etc... Articles like this make your blog look worse than it makes Cahill look.

Anonymous said...

I think this is one of the more important issues that Blaber has pointed out. Cahill should find another spot.

Anonymous said...

This is an important issue 9:31? Like it has an effect on the value of your home, or the availability of affordable housing? Oh, maybe the crimes stats will go up because Mr Cahill has an office w/o handicap accessibility

Anonymous said...

This is not just his office this is his campaign headquarters where people go and get info on the campaign and he chose to limit it to people who have two working legs or maybe this is just an office for strong CSEA workers? Cahill should get a new headquarters or drop out of the race.

Anonymous said...

What this shows is a lack of attention to detail and Government is detail to the extreme.

By itself it is not a big deal to anyone but persons unable to go up stairs. That does include people with working legs too. Maybe a Senior. Maybe even his Father!

It is a symptom of rushed judgment and poor planning. It is the kind of things that comes naturally to people who are truly committed to serving the ALL of the public.

Then there is the basic idea that every campaign headquarters should be at street level. Who is advising this dummy? These are the type of decisions that lose elections.

That's a good observation. The Dem's for years have been laughing about the GOP headquarters hiden on Wall St. where no one can see them...on the second floor as well. The Dem's have a nice spot with a window where signs can be displayed. Cahill is a lightweight and that's the way he was taught.

You mean the Sottile/Bradley Headquarters...right?

LITTLE DICK IS HOSING THE HANDICAPPED B/C HE'S TRYING TO GET THE AMERICAN NAZI PARTY ENDORSEMENT!

BTW DID YOU CATCH BIG DICK PICKING HIS NOSE ON TV THE OTHER NIGHT? I THOUGHT HE WAS GONNA GRAB A GARDEN TROWEL HE WAS DIGGING SO HARD!

Anonymous said...

So what? It's not like many Kingston voters are planning to visit the Cahill headquarters anyway, although it is obvious that anyone who actually does go to GOP headquarters suffers a serious handicap. Sottile should issue a press release to outline the ways city government provides universal accessibility to offices and delivers to disabled citizens the services they need.

Then, Sottile needs to endorse Jonathan Sennett, write a big fat campaign check to the Democratic candidate, and call upon fellow Democrats to unite and rally around the next DA. He should apologize for being such an idiot.

Assuming that there isn't an elevator available in the Koenig building then Rich Cahill couldn't have made a worse choice for his new headquarters.

To me this sheds light on Rich's lack of attention to details, and clearly demonstrates his sloppiness.

I wonder how Rich will try and blame the mayor for this mistake!!!

Please don't capitalize on the disabilities of some people to try and score political points---it's unfair and insensitive. I'm not a Cahill supporter but let's be real---if making life more accessible to disabled people was your TRUE concern then you wouldn't excuse Chris Kenoig for being "grandfathered in." That's just a technicality that gets him out of having to accommodate people who may have trouble accessing his buidling. Your blog is only as good as its reasoning and in this case you use some people's disadvantage as a way to attack a candidate you don't like. Your concern DOES NOT stem from a sincere compassion for those who deserve it, disabled persons.

How many building owners did Sottile and his CREW have to call to stop Cahill and Company from getting decant Campaign Headquarters space. How many of those owners have permit applications before the City right now for review?

How many many arms have been bent. Jeremy you know how it goes.

Anonymous said...

Jeremy
Maybe you are just more concerned with having to walk up all of those stairs and kiss the new mayors behind on Nov 4th.

Anonymous said...

I spoke with Rich Cahill about his headquarters. He had two other locations selected with a tentaive deal in place. Then, each building owner received a phonecall from Sottile threatening them if they dealt with Cahill. Both people withdrew their offer.

Cahill's choice for a headquarters is fine. You are grasping at straws because you have nothing significant you can point to in Sottile's record of any real worth and you are completely unable to attack Cahill's ideas or plans.

Frankly, Jeremy, you are becoming a shrill and pathetic attack dog for Jim Sottile.

Lastly, I am disabled myself. But, I am voting for Cahill and Walker.

Anonymous said...

You are truly a jerk, Jeremy. Cahill is out there talking about taxes and crime and you and Bill Reynolds (at the Kingstonion site) are raising this crap?? I just want to know whether you actually believe the manure you shovel or do you just not care what you say about Cahill as long as he doesn't win??

Anonymous said...

Your just angery because a prominent Democrat like Chirs Koenig agreed to rent to Rich. His headquarters are highly visible and in a much better location than Sottile.

Also, why don't you mention how Sottile made a deal with the developer to get a free headquarters??

Anonymous said...

Blabs....If this is such an issue to you then you ought to suggest your friend Koenig that he should not hide behind a "grandfathering" of the law and get the building in compliance. Its common courtsey to the handicapped in Kingston.

...and will make his building more valuable when the real estate tanks even more so if Sottile wins.

Anonymous said...

not a lil dickie fan, but come on pick the right battle. rent is rent, jeremy find better shit than that.

Anonymous said...

The real issue behind this is Sottile's threats and his insistence at stacking the deck. Do we want a Mayor who appears to spend more time "getting his way" (Bradley campaign- against the will of the Democratic Committe, Whitlock against the will of the Ward 4 search committee of the Democratic Party, placing of meters in defiance of the Common Council legislation, having nonresident landlords put up the signs he wants on their properties and forcing tenants to remove signs of their choices) than running the City?

Mayor Sottile is pushing his agenda, his choices, his "view" of Kingston at the expense of the safety, welfare and the future of the residents, who pay his salary. He meddles where he does not belong, he shouts down those with differing viewpoints and he resorts to threats to get HIS way. Where is the democracy in his form of Democrat?

How about the issues - taxes, crime, programs for our children, for our senior citizens. When are we going to hear the Mayor's plan for the next 4 years? What was his plan for the last four years? When will Kingston come before his agenda; when will the truth be more important than the spin?

Anonymous said...

I can tell you when the truth becomes more important than the spin. NEVER!! The truth is 27.6% tax increase, 63 % sewer TAX increase, decaying infrastructure and more FOR SALE signs every day. You are not going to see that mentioned here, and I doubt anyone other than Jeremy sees this comment. You see, his statement that he prints all comments, that's spin too!

Frank would be rolling over in his grave knowing his building is being used to house such scum.

LITTLE DICK IS SUCH A LOW LIFE

Anonymous said...

Well said 6:56. Not so well 3:03 and 6:41, really profound stuff.

Sottile's PLAN for the city has been an experiment in Socialization of a City. IT HAS FAILED MISERABLY! Neosocialism cannot work when a city government and its services depend on city RESIDENTS, HOMEOWNERS, paying their share of property tax. It cannot survive on the backs of landlords, especially absent-lords, whose tennants typically cost the city more in services than it receives from taxes levied. The forsale signs are INDICATIVE of this failure. Homeowners are happy to pay their SHARE, so long as the city maintains itself and provides a safe and healthy environment. But when taxes get too high, and the returns from these taxes decrease, well you get the picture.

Just as everyone is angry at the 'Stay the Course' attitude in Washington, well, it seems to be time to change course here in Kingston.

Jeremy,
Rich Cahill has some nerve questioning how posts are handled in your blog.

On Rich's blog he's got articles supposedly written by the blog administrator and his "friend" Chris DiIorio.

I'd like to know does Chris live in the City of Kingston? Or for that matter does he even really exist? My hunch is that Chris is actually a nom de guerre for Rich Cahill!

Rich, I think you owe the residents and voters here in the Ciy of Kingston full disclosure regarding the authorship of your blog!!!

Finally, at least Jeremy will publish this post; on Rich's blog it wouldn't see the light of day. Rich hasn't posted or answered a single question I've asked there all week.

Can't you guys do any better than cheap personal insults? Cahill is making you guys and Sottile look very bad.

An "experiment", 8:56? I rather think it was quite deliberate, with a view to currying favor with Hillary for that mayors' task force thing!

Anonymous said...

Why is Cahill so reluctant to anwer the questions regarding his new headquarters that were posted here and on his blog?

What is Rich Cahill afraid of?

Anonymous said...

It occurs to me that he isn't afraid of anything in this regard. It's actually a good strategy. Be quiet and let your opponent hang himself with outragous statements that the common man can see right through!

JUST ANOTHER CLUELESS, STUPID THING ON LITTLE DICK'S PART - HOW THE HELL DID HE PASS LAW SCHOOL? OH WAIT, LAWYERS GET PAID TO SCREW PEOPLE, SORRY, ALMOST FORGOT. BTW I HEARD HE GOT ENDORSED BY THE KINGSTON NOSEPICKER'S COMMITTEE.

These constant negative reference to Mr. Cahill's family are truly shameful.

I think that 2:57 made a fine point; not responding to these sorts of attacks - and these types of comments - is a smart thing.

Anonymous said...

to 11:20 - it's a fair assumption that since you're a Sottile supporter, you're also a Bradley supporter - you do realize that all 3 DA candidates are lawyers, right? Denigrating an entire profession is immature and irresponsible - you might need a lawyer someday.

robert senor (alterman 8th ward)comments about handicap fish access at west strand park is an example of the views of the local politcal partys
"handicap people have to learn they cant do every thing they want to"
this statment was made to me
i am posting this anonymously for fear of the backlash

Anonymous said...

10:19, you mean blind people can drive cars too?

Anonymous said...

How can Senor's comment reflect a political party? Firstly, we have no idea which party Senor belongs to. And secondly, was this comment made at a party convention? Perhaps this was a PERSONAL OPINION?

Anonymous said...

i would like to learn more about Robby Sottile's handicap fishing comments. Do tell, where did he spew them and who was there besides yourself?

Anonymous said...

How can people on this blog make such huge statements such as "cahill is a low life" without backing them at all. How is someone that actually gives a crap about this city a low life? How is someone that wants to improve Kingston rather than leave as most of his peers have done a lowlife?

You people have only rude insults with no backup. At least try to fake a reason for god's sake.

HERE'S WHY LITTLE DICK IS A LOW LIFE, BECAUSE HE SITS IN FRONT OF THE TV CAMERA WHILE BIG DICK PICKS HIS NOSE, AND LITTLE DICK KEEPS TALKING TO THE CAMERA AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED!

7:45
the comment was made at the west strand park to me when asked about changing the law to allow fishing in an area that would allow access to all
btw it was robert senor who made the comment not sotile
if you would like to contact me and ask any questions i will be at the park wensday night from 4 to about 7 sitting at the east end of the park

even if it is his personal opinion
voters need to know that he believes
that persons with handicaps are not to be treated the same
and being he is one who makes the laws for this city his opinion will be reflected in any laws he in acts with out regards to the "people with disability act of 1990"

Get a grip! Pounding Cahill for renting an office on the second floor is so lame. What you might want to look into is the quid pro quo Sottile has with his office. Election rules specify that donation of real estate use be specified on the financial reports. Sottile has had his “invisible” office on Grand Street since early July (before??), and I’ve heard no Rep complaints or Dem financial reports about it. County Dems must love “Bradley” all over it as well…..City Dems are too cowed by Sottile’s august presence to say anything. No matter what Cahill does, there’s some rotten scum out there spinning it out of control. You guys must think voters are stupid & will fall for all this crap. Wait & see. The electorate is a lot smarter than Dems believe, and there is a limit to how far you can make City residents bend over and continue to take what the administration forces upon them.

3:20 had a point. Guess the Disabilities act of 1990 is the reason we have braille on drive up ATMs.

What is so untrue with his remarks? Are you angry simply because it's said without compassion? There are physical limits that differ in each and every one of us. I have to come to grips that I cannot run a marathon, should I expect marathon organizers to shorten the venue to allow me to finish?

Why am I sticking up for Senor, I can't stand the guy. I am actually standing up for freedom of speach.

Anonymous said...

If Cahill's office is inaccessible to the handicapped, then go look at Edson School where Ward 1 votes - it's not handicapped accessible at all. Not allowing handicapped voters (or students)access to the building (or making it very difficult, anyway) is way worse than Cahill's HQ.

Anonymous said...

3:20
ok so you cant run the marathon
but let say you lost both arms
would you want the marathon organizers to tell you that you could not run
every one who has nay kind of handicap knows what they can and can not do
the truth is that those in power can stop anyone from doing any thing if the voters allow it

On primary night 2007 the Sottile/Noble Headquarters was overflowing with enthusiastic volunteers and supporters celebrating the overwhelming Noble victory over the outclassed Lenny Walker.

Meanwhile, a few blocks away over at the Cahill/Walker Headquarters there were only two lost, lonely and bitter souls.

Paging bitter party of two...paging bitter party of two!!!

How is does Cahill fit this defenition? Because his father blew his nose on tv? Now, if we're talking about someone that threw a drink at a women, that's a lowlife. What has Cahill really done that is so horrible other than being a republican?
