Blaber News' Third Annual and FINAL Person of the Year VOTE NOW

I am once again asking for your help in selecting Blaber News' third annual and final person of the year. Blaber News' person of the year must be an active member of the community that has made significant contributions to making Ulster County a better place to live work and raise a family.

Voting will go on for a week and the winner will receive the Blaber News Person of the Year plaque, and a full page write up on Jeremyblaber.com

Vote on the right side of the blog and feel free to use the comment section to write in a nominee that may not be on the list.

Full descriptions of the nominees will be done in the next day or so but for now here are the nominees and the specific reason to why they were nominated:

Mayor Jim Sottile- For his unwavering support of the long dormant Kirkland Hotel, even when it was an unpopular idea that hurt him with labor in his 2007 election. The Kirkland had it's grand opening April 11th of this year.

Comptroller elect Elliott Auerbach- Elliott Auerbach was elected Ulster County's first Comptroller in the closest election in Ulster County's history. Auerbach ran a true grass roots campaign being outspent by his opponent more than 5:1, despite this, Elliott never went negative or jeopardized his integrity or the integrity of the office that he was seeking. His election is truly historic.

Executive elect Mike Hein- Mike Hein was elected to be the first Executive of Ulster County in a landslide, running a well organized campaign and focusing on his great successes as county administrator. Hudson Valley Business magazine stated that " Mike Hein has delivered more reform in his two years as administrator than the previous 29 combined."

Assemblyman Kevin Cahill-
- Kevin Cahill who was the 2007 Blaber News Person of the Year, was recently reelected to another term in the state assembly winning almost 70% of the vote. Cahill is a tireless advocate for Ulster County and is the new chair of the Assembly's energy committee.

I think you're the news person of the year and your departure will leave a hole in this county's political discourse. I hope you come back at least for the next election cycle. No other blog has so effectively influenced our elected officials and candidates. Your hosting of these past two elections was a great help to the success of our county's democratic process and the issues raised here helped elevate the campaigns to record levels. If only you had gotten a percentage of those campaign's expenditures, you'd be a well funded candidate yourself. You got things done here. I hope you leave unscorched enough to play in the fire again. Honest Abe sure isn't up to it and neither is any other blog I've found.

Jeremy, why are you shutting down your blog.

I like Mike Too.

You disappoint me Blaber. You just won't publish my critical comments about Cahil. Be a man. Not everybody likes your guy. What's the point of allowing comment when you won't allow disagreements? I know Cahill keeps getting elected. But don't confuse that with thinking people like this guy. He's arrogant and unpleasant and thin skinned. You want that in an assemblyman? You've got it.

Give it to Mike Madsen, the hardest working democrat there is.

What about Mike, he's a great guy and works harder than anyone you have on your list. Well he beats the Mayor hands down.

Thanks Blaber. You showed some guts and posted my comments.

4:38, Here's the thing, when Cahill gets reelected year after year with 65-70% of the vote and wins these popularity contest polls over and over,I think it is safe to assume that people like him. You may not, but most people do.

The people who may dislike Cahill are the people who he refuses to bow down to. Ask the working man and women of Ulster County, they reaffirm that the only way it really matters, with their vote.

Blaber is right to include Cahill, he is one of the few elected people out there who does not suck up to these local yokels who think they rule the County.

I want to vote for the Egyptian Journalist who threw both his shoes at President Bush today.
In related news, upon his return from Iraq, President Bush visited Harlem to further try to improve his popularity in his waning days in office. He told the crowd:"Ahh had an speeryence over thayyurrr...ah'd lahk to thank ah developed uh...uh...some sole!! Hyukyukyuk!"

I love Jon Sennett, but I am beginning to think Alderman Thomas Hoffay is the most influential and hardest working pol of the year. Sottile is embattled and defensive, Cahill was no more effective this year than last.

If he does well, Mike Hein is set to be the person of the year next year.

Though I supported Jon for DA, he in no way should be considered News Person of the Year.
