"The Working Families Party, once derided as a rag-tag collection of Brooklyn progressives, is now the pre-eminent political force in New York City politics"
-NY Times
I was on the subway late Thursday night reading the Post and I came across a letter to the editor by New Paltz's GOP Chair Butch Dener. Seeing it in print made my night, good for you Butch. The letter was defending President Bush and taking a shot at Matt Lahuer over the way he interviewed Bush. Just so happens I caught that interview the other morning at 7am too! I actually remember thinking to myself how fair they were to Bush. So,I respectfully disagree with Mr. Dener on his analysis of the interview. ;)
Will someone tell George Phillips the race is over! Congressman Hinchey has won reelection. Do the right thing and concede.
LINE WAR: It looks like the NYS Conservative party will end up on row C, thanks to Carl Paladino's tea party supporters, the party has gained enough votes to surpass the Independence party. On a bigger note, it also is looking good that the WFP will move to Row D, becoming the 4th biggest party in NYS!! Working Families is ahead of the Independence party, which likely will drop to Row E. Ulster County pulled in a huge amount of votes on the WFP line!!! Thanks to everyone that voted WFP, you voted your values and made your voice count and it certainly has made a difference.
An independent consulting firm hired by the Republican controlled legislature to examine the budget has issued a report giving it the thumbs up! Democrat Mike Hein has got to feel good about that. Congrats Mr. Exec.
TURF WAR- Det. Tim Matthews takes issue with a press release issued by D.A. Carnright. Last week many of you know that a welfare scam was uncovered at the Sunocco on Broadway, three ringleaders were arrested and the people that participated are also now under investigation. However, there is some discrepancy on who started the investigation which lead to this scam being shutdown, the KPD and county both are taking credit. Social Services director (who has gotta know his days are numbered) Roberto Rodriguez claims it was his department that discovered the scam which DA Carnright seemed to confirm:
Carnright said in a press release on Tuesday that the “investigation was begun through information developed by the Ulster County Department of Social Services’ Special Investigations Unit and has been a joint effort between that department, the Kingston Police Department and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.”
Matthews said the claim that the county started the investigation “was absolutely, 100 percent not true, contrary to what anybody in county government says.”
Zing! Just another example of DA Carnright not with the program. No question in my mind that Detective Matthews is right on this and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. The KPD detective and top cop to URGENT has no reason to lie nor would he.

Glad to hear about the WFP. As for Holly...no shock there...
actually, who cares who started this investigation. That is so childish to fight about it in the paper. With that said thou, it appears our county social services department better get their act together and start accounting for the money they're giving away .
congrats on WFP moving up to row D. I would like to point out that the mighty 1199 worked hard to have its members vote on the WFP line. As to the matter of Dept Soc. Services.... This is a classic of the goverment waste mantra that every politican says during a campaign. Now is the time for Elliot to form a task force to audit all aspects of that dept.SS. The Comptroler exposed the corruption at the RRA, of which the republicans said that there is "nothing wrong" there. And now the republicans are covering there butts by saying "we started the investigation first". A MILLION BUCKS? Way to go KPD.
Bob Porter
Elliot should have made DSS his first priority. Soon as possible put a person there to clean the books and house
The problem isn't Dss the problem is that entielements breed corruptilon, there will always be someone trying toscam the system and quite homestly, it seems to be easy pickin's!
In the 60's when welfare was vogue, thousands of people came up from Alabama & Georgia to register in NY as a family needing welfare with then DSS, why? because a family of 4 in NY was granted $950.00 pr mth while in Alabama that same family got just under $400.00
Government Programs suck!
Jeremy your getting off easy from your competitor Mojo. all he seems to do is want to bash Noonan. Noonans gone and he must have really twisted Roberti's panties on his way out.
The city of Kingston is rampant with welfare receipients looking to get cash. The penalty should be that they are expelled from the system and any other NYS benefits. Go prey on another state for your scams. Safety Net and Food stamp scam: 2 Taxpayers:0
And for the record Roberto Rodriguez needs to go. Too much fraud on his watch and lack of oversight. Is that an appointed position? If so, he has to go.
Tough to figure how Carnright has anything to do with DSS and KPD arguing about who gets credit for this case. It seems an obvious case of Rodriguez trying to cover his butt for something like this going on for over a year. Nice try though.
Rodriguez is a Hein appointee isn't he, was he asleep at the wheel or does he believe that corruption in government programs is a necessary evil?
I'm sure whether they get free dental services in prison, or cigarettes on their benefits card, they will get a pass and be put back on the rolls somewhere else. When you have all that time on your hands you can use it to find a job or create a scam, we should put them all to work doing the work that illegals are doing and make them punch the clock to get their benefits.
We'd eliminate the magnite for illegals, fill positions that no one else seems to want and make welfare and social services pay for itself by lowering unemployment.
Come to think of it would'nt it be smart to require unemployment and social servce recipients to take a drug test to get and keep their benefits?
Wow you could apply that to medicaid as well, it would improve the health of those getting medicaid and probably reduce the demand for services.
If a guy wants to shoot himself in the head with a gun or in the arm with a hypo, does he really need health insurance?
4:55 makes some good points, but does he think all those getting entitlements are drug addicts?
Or for that matter all those who've lost a job just sit at home smoking pot?
What was I saying, Oh yeah does he think that (cough), we are all sitting on our kiesters burn'n a joint?
4:55 mlks sme gool pants, (chewing), we all annt sitng home smokkkkkkkkkkkig a ........who the hell are you, get out of my house, no no no!
(just hav'n some fun with ya')
Hey honey, we got anymore chips?
Can't blame Hein for this one. Rodriquez was appointed almost 4 years ago by Kraft who used to be on the Legislature along with his friends the Paretes. Every one who works there hates the way he runs the agency. Let's hope Hein doesn't reappoint him.
