Gallo Wins Dem Primary; Clement and Cardinale Show Their Class

I congratulated Shayne on his win, Shayne was a friend of mine before this primary and he is still a friend of mine.

- Alderman Hayes Clement

Now that the Primary season is finally completed, I would like to congratulate those who participated in the process and particularly those that were victorious. Special congratulations go out to Shayne Gallo who will be leading the Democratic ticket in November. Both Shayne and Hayes ran outstanding campaigns and as a result of their hard work, they energized enrolled Democratic voters in the City in a manner we have never before seen.
- Frank Cardinale, City of Kingston Democratic Chairman

For clarification, Jeremy - were you at the BoE for the final decision? I heard quite a different tale.

I actually was there and that is were Hayes made those comments, he was a gentleman. It's time to put all grudges aside. Hayes ran a great race and that is very clear.

Okay - thanks for clearing that up.

I was at the BOE, for one of the days, 4:13. The atmosphere was not a Sunday picnic, to be sure. No one would expect it to be. Gallo and Clement both had their poker faces on and weren't doing chit chat for 3 hours. They basically talked quietly to their lawyers the whole time. Did you expect them to entertain the crowd and do card tricks? This wasn't a night out at Riccardi's. They both handled a tense situation politely but seriously -- like adults.

There is video. Go to the freeman.
Hayes is a stand up guy.

Thank goodness Hayes didnt win. I dont believe he is a standup guy at all, he had no other choice but to concede. Frank Cardinale should step down as chairman, his behavior as a chairman was disgraceful prior to convention and primary. He had two committeemen vying for support at the convention yet he publically was supporting Clement all over town before the convention openly. Disgraceful and unethical behavior that warrants his resignation. I am happy to support gallo this election, but not if he is supporting the actions of this chairman.

7:25.., You say Hayes isn't a stand up guy and them go on to blast Cardinale. I do not disagree with you that Cardinale should step down, he blew it when he picked the wrong horse as Chairman, big no, no for an open office.

Hayes did the right thing after the primary was over. Compare the Democrats to the Republicans. Cahill is putting what little chance Polacco had to rest by staying on the ballot. He is not a stand up guy.

I agree with 7:25 - a chairperson is supposed to remain neutral until the committee votes. He's supposed to be a tie-breaker - not even vote unless there is a tie.

Cardinale is proving that he's an old timer - he comes from the days of the party boss - the machine. He's been out of the game too long.

Republicans are OK with taking their marching orders from their "boss", but Democrats aren't. The Kingston Committee proved how old their mind-set is. It came back to bite them in the ass big-time.

1. The Republican voters obviously do not give a damn what the party bosses say. The nominated candidate got only 38%.

2. Why should Cahill get out? He promised the Conservatives he'd run on their line. Should he tell the Conservatives to stick it? What would the WFP think if their candidate told them to stick b/c they lost the Dem line?
