Good man and a solid Legislator. He stuck to his beliefs and defended them. Phil will be missed.

While I disagreed with Phil at times, I hope he is at peace.

I hope he gets re-elected, even after death. I think he would have liked that.

Scumbag Lomita is blaming the republicans for Phil's death.

Total Scumbag... Read the article from MHNN.com

“We were running on the same team and he was responding to charges made by a Republican opponent, charges that were made about him and me, ‘if you are happy with the status quo, vote for these two,’ and Phil was very upset by the statement that was made by the Republican and collapsed soon after,” said Lomita.

So he died because a republican made him upset? Get real.

Make sure to vote this scumbag out of office. Say NO-MITA to LOMITA

Obama's career appears over. Take
a look at the new poll data...

Gallup recorded an average daily approval rating of 53 per cent for Mr Obama for the third quarter of the year, a sharp drop from the 62 per cent he recorded from April.

His current approval rating – hovering just above the level that would make re-election an uphill struggle – is close to the bottom for newly-elected president. Mr Obama entered the White House with a soaring 78 per cent approval rating.

Phil's name is off the ballot per UC BOE. The UC Democratic Executive Committee has until Oct. 30th to name a replacement to fill the vacancy.

Thank you for your kind service Phil!!!smitty

I have to agree with 7:10 PM. Hard core Republicans are a churlish bunch. They even find it necessary to bring their borish behavior to a Memorial on the internet.Sad...

So who dem' dems gonna put on the ballot to replace the fallen terpster? Howz abouts Roscoe Pecora? Back in the roar'n 80s, Ole' Roscoe P. Coltrane used to bang 4000K+ votes when he ran as a log cabin. He's experienced, fair minded, intelligent, and then newly minted Mike Madsen will have someone to play foot-tapper with on the 6th floor bathroom.

What I have to say should not be anonymous and I have no idea as to if this blog automatically protects the privacy of its comments....
However, I was Phil Terpening's Assistant when he was the Rosendale Town Supervisor. All the wonderful comments said about this man are definitely not just "postmortem" praises.
He was everything and MORE than what people have said here and in the news. His life was totally dedicated to his community, his religious beliefs, his County and beyond. But most of all to his daughter, Heather who has now lost her father--as we have lost the "Father" of the very small group called "honest politicians". Didn't think there was one? Well Phil was the person who taught me that one could be honest, true to his convictions and the needs of his constituents and made me believe in the value of the political arena. As for Mr. Lomita blaming the Republicans for Phil's passing? Mr. Lomita just stated a fact. A Republican opposing candidate, Mr. Pitcock said exactly what was posted. And yes, Phil took umbrage to that. You know why? Because there was never "Status Quo" with Phil--as he was always moving forward to make things better. Was the accusation of Mr. Pitcock a killer? Let's say it was enough to make a very mild man so incensed with an untruth that his entire being fought back with all his energy. If someone like Phil had to expire from this life in this way--I must say it would have been the way he would have wanted to be taken. However he was taken all too soon, and the rest of us are the losers. Phil was a winner in every way and would have won this election even if his name would have been able to be left on the ballot. With much love, respect and admiration--your friend forever, Rochelle Riservato

one who knows said...

actually 9:14 - it was Lomita, the most churlish of them all that brought partisan poolitics into Phil's memorial - get yer facts straight,, that other guy was just responding to churlish Lomita's comments

,,,& it is sooo interesting that the Dems chose NOT to put anyone in poor Phil's place on the ballot,,, HMMMM ?

Mr. Dicker,

Your surname says it all. Roscoe is a most credible candidate but out of respect for the "terpster", as you so insensitively put Mr. Terpening's name, the Dems have decided to not replace him. And for "One who Knows Says"...Mr. Lomita was devastated by Phil's passing and being witness to it. He only corrected an incorrect report that said he was "debating with Terpening", which was misunderstood. The reporter thought Mr. Donaldson said he was debating with (and perceived it as against Mr. Terpening)--in reality, Mr. Donaldson was upset and actually meant they were both (Terpening and Lomita) were at a candidate event where they were both debating--but not with each other--with the opposing candidates. It's an easy mistake that Mr. Lomita corrected as anyone would do in that situation.

As a registered democrat living in district 7, I'm sitting this election out in honor of Phil. Alan Lomita does not deserve to hold public office anymore. Republicans can kiss my ass too, but for Phil's sake, I'm staying home on Tuesday!

Thank you for the republican input.
Listening to your anonymous print proves why you are the minority party, here in Ulster County and nationwide you have a 20% following.

May all your progressive ideas and timely comments keep you open and courageous...smitty

Write in Phil anyway!!

Missouri elected a dead governor in 2000. Let's get Phil back in there, because even a dead democrat can do less harm than any Republican.

Vote for Phil!!!

The only thing is, if one stays home, you are not giving your town council, clerk, or any other member of the town government a vote or a chance. Phil would not want that. In reverence to a man that believed in voting, please get out and vote.

I was wondering if that could be done and by golly, I think I will do that. If all that was going to vote for Phil did that, he'd win and a Dem would get in by appointment.
I asked if we could do a write-in and was told no.
Hmmmm, have to find out more tonight.
thanks, you are truly a good person, love what you said about a Dead Dem...lol

Phil could have lived a little longer...maybe we'd still have the legislature...
