Julian Schreibman Accepts Dem nod for Congress photo by Dan Torres |
packed house..
This is about a week old.... Julian Schreibman was nominated as our next Congressman by Ulster Democrats. Julian has also now received the endorsements of the Dutchess, Greene, and Columbia County Democrats. I hear Ahouse and Zimet are both out. The DCCC is actively looking for another candidate but it looks like Julian has a good shot, both for the nomination and the general. Schreibman has my support, the party has endorsed him and I think he will do well.
Frank Cardinale was elected Chairman. Cardinale's failure as Chairman is inevitable, he has no clue, no drive and is fueled by divisiveness. I hope someone can run in September and defeat him for the sake of the Ulster County Democratic Committee.

Looks like Schreibman and Tyner will duke it out in a primary, and the edge has to go to Schreibman. But I wouldn't write off Tyner - the guy is relentless and committed, and won't go down without a fight. Unless another candidate is out there getting petitions signed right now, it will have to be one of these two, since there's only 2 weeks left for Congressional petitions to be signed.
What no pictures of Bernardo at the Dem convenrtion? Come on Jeremy we know you have them
I want to see Julian do well only because he is from Ulster. I just can't believe this is our candidate pool? Chris Gibson is laughing somewhere I will tell you that.
His chances get better everyday. Gibson isnt laughing, he's crying. A guy from the shadows he can't smear is set to cruise right in on a wave. Julian is just what we need. I can't wait to see which legislation he starts on first. I think it might be new terrorism courts to close out gitmo. Maybe it will be a fracking safety bill. He can definitely write carefully enough to solve these issues.
Gibson is either laughing, or crying with joy. Either way, it's because he's going against Schreibman, or Tyner for that matter. He'll crush either one.
Biodegradable fracking fluids should obviously be required. Then there would be no need to poison the earth twice by drilling containment wells to bury it. Wasnt the earthquake problem tied to containment wells anyway? How stupid is that? It's only a matter of time before every source of energy gets tapped. We really need to do it right.
It is refreshing to see a person of Julian's intellect throwing his hat in the ring. He will be a champion for the middle class, the working class and will look out for the interest of seniors and the working class. I am fearful that his tea party/conservative opponent is too far to the right and will turn his back on social issues including MEDICARE and SOCIAL SECURITY
Gibson undoubtedly is smiling. Schreibman couldn't win elections as chair in a county with significantly more Dems than Republicans. It will not matter that the District is fifty fifty. He couldn't win when he had an advantage. Can you say County Court Judge, Legislature, District Attorney, County Clerk. He could not and will not raise anywhere near enough money for anyone to even know who he is. What little he does raise, he will spend trying to fight off Tyner, who runs for every office that is available including Governor and apppears to be a perpetual candidate. The lack of respectable candidates is really an embarrassment for democrats, but it has to be seen as an indication of how tough Gibson will be to beat. There were people mentioned that had a much better chance of winning and they chose not to run. It can only mean that Gibson and his 800K was seen as too tough a hill to climb.
One of the two Democrats who were elected county wide while Shcriebman was chair was a Republican. Hein would switch back in a heartbeat if he thought the trend was going that way!
Folks are forgetting that this is a presidential election year. Obama's coat tails will be huge against Romney and will sweep Schriebman and other Democrats into Congress. Other likely candidates ie. Hein, Cahill didn't run because they have secure positions not subject to the brutal politics found in DC. Schriebman will get the necessary funding. Gibson is running in a completely new district with many areas west of the Hudson River where he is unknown. The Cook Report rates the race as a toss up.
The Democratic leadership will only invest money in races they think they can win or come close, and those are already identified in their Red to Blue program. Their are 57 Congressional races targeted on Red to Blue. Gibson is not one of them. Julian will not be getting much help from DC, period.
Oh well this is politically incorrect to say for Ulster County but Julian is a boy from Yale--not exactly the kind of image of the "99 %" one wants to portray, and lest I mention the Bush family...
Well...and the real hometown boy is Tyner, although for Ulsterites somehow the pride factor is he is a foreigner from across the river. If it is Julian it will be a replay of Obama and Romney--ie, not much of a contrast.
