GOP BACKS BERNARDO AND QUIGLEY

(L) Len Bernardo (R) James Quigley

The GOP has backed Len Bernardo to be their candidate for County Executive and James Quigley for County Comptroller. Bernardo, an Independent was appointed unanimously to be the GOP candidate for Executive.

James Quigley, who serves on the board of directors for Montrepose Cemetery, buried his opponent Jean Jacobs by a vote of 111-19 to capture the GOP endorsement for Comptroller.

More sad than Jacobs' crushing defeat, as a Democrat I was pushing for her, is the fact that only 130 people showed up to the Republican convention... by contrast the Democratic convention which takes place on Monday will attract well over double that amount.

That vote can only be described as an ass kicking!! If the city GOP had any clue, they would dump her and fast.

interesting a guy from Saugerties who works for a big housing developer we all know sent out an email urging everyone to vote for Jean Jacobs. I wish someone would get that email and post it here. That housing developer and his allies sure must be nervous. Even if Hein wins, Quigley can make their life miserable.

Jean Jacobs was just the start. Since Quigley is already suing the Town of Ulster for special tax breaks given this special developer and is rumored to be focusing on said developers projects in other towns next they will pull out all the stops to protect their special intersts. He is showing that he is standing up for the taxpayer and he is not even in office yet.

The faces of evel, Blab, the faces of evil and conservatism.

Quigley as comptroller will be a nightmare for Nicki Woerner and his posse.

There were 200 people at the convention. Many of them were not Republican committee members though. They were new Republicans who are taking new interest in the party and also independents who want reform and change in the way government is run. It as the loudest, most crowded GOP convention in probably 10 years.

hey look Jean Jacobs just got more votes then she did all night last night....

The numbers you refer to were just the committeemen. There were numerous others in attendance. The room was bursting at the seams and the business kept bringing more chairs in all night long. At the height of it, there were well over 350 people stuffed into that room.

Anonymous said...

Come on, that room does not hold 350 people. Maybe 200 at the upper most.

from the hillside website ---> "We can comfortably accommodate up to 250".

and the Republicans were in the small room.

Anonymous said...

Early in the evening \, the chairman announced that they had planned for 150 and over 240 people had arrived. More people arrived after that announcement.

Anonymous said...

The key word is comfortably. We were not comfortable. There were many more people than those that voted.

Jeremy Blaber said...

I'm fully aware that the number is just committee people...we will have well over 250 committee people show up..not to mention others that will attend our convention to watch..unlike the GOP, are process is open to the public.

The GOP convention was open to the public. How do you think Hugh Reynolds got in? He's not a Republican and he isn't a part of the press any longer.

Anonymous said...

The GOP Convention was not in the small room.

who cares about the gop convention. when hein beats bernardo maybe they will realize democrats want what is best for ulster and the citizens agree

Jean Jacobs got almost DOUBLE the votes that Clarkie Richters got.

You GO Girl!!!!!

Here's a prediction for you, Jeremy. City Republicans will dump Jean Jacobs before the summer is over.

The front room at the hillside is used for smaller gatherings. The back room is used for bigger gatherings.

The republicans were in the front and the sheriff's awards banquet was in the back.

When is someone going to talk about the 800 lb gorilla in the room?

After what Bush has done in Washington with the whole Evangelical Christian thing, Bernardo has me worried. Is this something that taxpayers should be concerned about? He tried to bring his religious beliefs into his business. Should taxpayers be worried that he will do the same in government?

Religion and government do not mix.

Hein's camp is very comfortable...by August they will all be wondering what went wrong and where did Bernardo come from. This will be a real race and Bernardo has what the the people will vote for...Honesty.

Anonymous said...

If Bernardo cannot get the whole republican party behind him what makes you think he will win??? Bonacics money???

Anonymous said...

If only Aileen Gunther can be convinced to challenge Bonacic. She beats him by 3 to 1 odds

to 4:51: By inference you are saying Mike Hein is dishonest then? I say Prove it. Give examples. List where and when Mike has been dishonest. Tell us how Mike Heins honesty is less appealing then the untested or unchallenged honesty of Bernardo.

These comments crack me up, it is as if because Bernardo is an evangelical, born again Christian he has cornered the market on honesty. Mike is an honest person with the correct balance of private and government experience.
That is what the voters will see and support come August and right on through to November when they will vote for him.

Anyone who thinks Mike Hein is going to take it easy for the summer has not been watching this guy. He has been out there for more than a year now, and he is working hard.

Let's hope he can keep up the intensity. It's a long way until November.

The Republican party is behind Bernardo. Who were they going to get behind? NOOOOOONAN? Only in your dreams democrats..... Sorry charlie, it didn't happen.... Republicans are united which is more than we can say for the democrats... have fun picking between the school teacher Donaldson and the village manager Auerbach. Quigley is going to trounce either of them... we don't care who you put up.

Anonymous said...

ya know, you might want to keep that Christian conservative stuff about Bernardo to yourself until after the conservative have picked their candidate. Bernardo gave the republicans the independence line on a silver platter... now they have republican and independence. If you don't keep quiet, Bernardo just may get all 3 lines, and that will leave Hein with just 1. After Hein gets the conservative line, then we can bash Bernardo about his conservative beliefs

to 5:35: By inference you are saying Len Bernardo is an evangelical, born again Christian? I say prove it. Give examples. List where and when Mr.Bernardo has pushed his personal beliefs on anyone...If you're planning on speaking of the "Christian Skate" nonsense that happened at Skate Time, then yes, these comments will crack me up too. Guilty? Yes he is. Guilty of doing what 100 percent of the roller rinks(as well as MOST businesses)in this country do...cater to the needs of the present demographics. Teen nights, adult nights, kid skates, singles nights, Christian skates, Jewish skates, etc. So do we discriminate against anyone who is not a teen, adult, kid, single, Christian, Jewish, etc.? Give me a break! All it took was one uptight ya-hoo to make a stink. And guess who it hurts? Not Mr.Bernardo, but the kids who go there...and the parents who rely on Skate Time when they cannot be there.

Believe it or not, Honesty goes a long way. So instead of jumping on some ignorant band-wagon, be honest with yourself...and feel free to test, and challenge, Mr.Bernardo's honesty. I think you will be very surprised...to the point where it just might hurt a little.

You feel that Quigley is a guarantee for comptroller. This is the same guy that poured money into fighting the charter. Does he really want what is best for Ulster county? Bernardo cannot beat Hein. Bernardo has lots of ammunition that can be used against him and will be. This is going to be a lot of fun. Then in November the first county executive, Mike Hein will assume office and the republicans will cry over some other wrong done to them.

Len Bernardo has become very well known in Rochester, not as a politian but as a good neighbor. Every family crisis, from home fires to health issues, Len opens his home & business up to the community to help. He has won the hearts of all those he has met in Rochester and in time, he will do the same in Ulster County.

Len is a perfect example of the benefits to a community when a business is run as a good neighbor. Everyone wins. Now it's time to run Ulster County's Government for its neighbors not for the professional political hogs at the trough.

Anonymous said...

i crack up about Hein's private and govt experience. He ran a jewelry store, then was a banker--which is, frankly, not that challenging of a business. He kissed butt at Wiltwyck, made friend with Kirschner, stabbed Republicans in the back, switched to Dem, you know the rest. If Hein is so great, why does he need Art Smith--who makes almost as money as he does?

Anonymous said...

Before school gets out, perhaps someone should check out the Rollerink to see if the rumors are correct...kids skip school and hang out at Brenardo's place.

Anonymous said...

If you imply that Bernardo is his own guy and not tied to poitical hogs then why was bonachoke selling him long before the republican convention??? Why the republican spin of support Bernardo he espouses republican ideals. Because he is a political puppet of bonachoke. He is a tool for bonachoke to take over the independence party. So much for not being a political hog.

Anonymous said...

I can't vote for either one right now. They both seem to want to BUY the seat. That does not help the people of the county who are being strangled by the money players. Bonachoke included

Anonymous said...

Ok, enough with the hanging out while cutting school at Skate Time crap. They just suspended two of their employees that they found out cut school last week. They were found at one of the boys home on Mettacahonts Road, NOT at Skate Time. So I think that you are really mistaken. Those kids were not allowed back in the building until their parents brought them in and they had quite a talking to. If you have other information, I suggest that you call the authorities, or speak to Len or Terry directly. They have much better things to do than consort with truants there. They do take that kind of behavior lightly. I, unlike you would be happy to name the names of the delinquents who were suspended from Skate Time by Len and Terry. The school didn't even do anything to the kids.

Anonymous said...

And let's just hope that the folks who keep accusing Bernardo of fostering delinquent behavior, aren't the same folks counting the votes in November...for either party. There's no room for PERSONAL agendas, when the welfare of the ENTIRE community is at stake. Come on, seriously...

Anonymous said...

If the Republicans cared about the community, they'd cross endorse Mike Hein!!!!

HEIN 08...Sounds Great!!!!

Anonymous said...

A vote for Hein is a vote for a better ulster county!! The Bernardo fans here are just more political hacks!!

After much fanfare - the "new" Charter has turned into the same "old" backroom deals. More expense and jobs for the same old patrons.

I am voting for Bernardo & Quigley - hoping for real business experience and people outside the controlled group of powers entrenched in our government.
