Susan is a legend in her own mind. She will be a complete and total disaster in the office of county executive. She polarizes people and takes credit for things she only has a minor role in. She is simply not qualified for this position. This is not a popularity contest, it is a contest to see who is best to manage taxpayers money and our future. What is Susan's employment history?
Where did Mike Hein go to college?
What is Mike Hein's employment history? He doesn't even have a resume on his website. What did he do before getting a government job a couple years ago?Zimet has a long, successful career as a private sector executive managing millions of dollars. And unlike Mike, she's had four years as a chief executive in government with a record of low taxes and good service delivery.Hein can't touch her credentials.
1:52 is right on target. Remember Legislators Fulicello and Zimet's visit to the Department of Social Services in August 2007?Senior staff at DSS called the interaction "an invasion" that included "intimidation, abuse and threats from both Legislators."Read it for yourself: http://www.dailyfreeman.com/site/index.cfm?newsid=18743975&BRD=1769&PAG=461&dept_id=74969&rfi=8The alleged invasion occurred over a taxpayer funded program that spent over half a million dollars so that a few dozen social services clients could graduate from Ulster County Community College with a Degree. It seems that Zimet was hell bent on trying to determine why DSS was trying to cut the program. What really raised a red flag on this expensive and relatively ineffective program? A state audit. Yet again, the state needs to come in and rescue Ulster County taxpayers.Zimet is ill-suited for the job of County Executive in experience, temperament and judgement. Why doesn't she run for Town of New Paltz Supervisor again and see if she gets elected now. If they loved her so much, they will take her back.
7:07 Zimet ran a 10 million operation into the ground and got voted out of office. She then lost a bid for Senate. She is taking credit for bailing out Ellenville Hospital, creating the Department of Environment and the Solar Energy Consortium and paving the way for Woodland Pond. None are true.Where is Zimet's resume?
Apparently Zimet is seeking the post of County Executive based upon her experience as Supervisor of the Town of New Paltz. Who does she thing she is kidding? The Zimet years were disasterous, which is why she was voted out. True story: Ann Rodman told me how she witnessed Susan Zimet angrily shredding stacks of files from the Supervisor's office when she lost her re-election bid against Democat Carol Roper. When Ann asked her what she was doing, Zimet reportedly said "I'm not going to leave that bitch any of my files." Papers on important town projects, from the proposed community center to the proposed recreation fields were destroyed. Roper found the town in such a mess that in a letter to Assemblyman Cahill seeking a "member item" to purchase a replacement police car, Supervisor Roper declared that the town was in a state of near fiscal emergency. Lesson: Zimet is too immature and ego-involved to trust with the responsibilities of an important administrative post.
Susan Zimet likes to claim that as Supervisor she attracted "multi-million dollar business appropriate for New Paltz." This is half-true, as far as it goes, but there is more to know about the story: There were two multi-million dollar "businesses" established in the town during Zimet's administration. One was a tax exempt medical center proposed long before Zimet came to office. Zimet negotiated a PILOT agreement with the developer of the medical center to "loop" a municipal water line and build a community center. Ten years later, the community center is finally nearing completion - thanks to the contract between the town and the developer that was negotiated and signed several years after Zimet left office. You can be sure that Zimet will be there at the ribbon cutting to take credit for the community center, and perhaps the health of the community was improved by local access to health care, but the town taxpayers never received a tax benefit from this multi-million dollar business. The other multi-million dollar business established during the Zimet years was the Apple Packers facility. It was assisted by the Ulster County IDA, and supported with federal tax dollars secured by Congressman Hinchey. As Supervisor, Zimet had a seat at the table, negotiated and signed the pilot agreement. A year after Zimet left office, the operators approached then Supervisor Roper and the town board to renegotiate the principle and repayment terms for their loan for equipment at the plant. Within a year or two the Apple Packers went "belly up," repayment to the town revolving loan fund stopped, they auctioned off the equipment and closed their doors. The town was never repaid for the money invested, and the taxpayers never received a tax benefit from this multi-million dollar business.
8:08 a.m. I am sure this is just the beginning of similar "too good to be true" stories about Zimet. Is the same true for Woodland Pond?
I know this comment will lead to nasty little comments from nasty little people, but for those of you looking at this race with any objectivity, take note:What Susan may lack in modesty, she makes up for in energy, enthusiasm and intellect. Voters love her because she speaks from the heart; you can feel her emotion. People like the idea of a real person being their leader. Not some empty suit (no that is not an attack on Mike Hein). It seems common for those seeking public office to exagerate the impact of their work. Can any one person take credit for legislation? It is sponsored by one, debated by others and suported or opposed by still more people. Then, it is implemented by many others. I don't think people can claim singlehanded accomplishment in any public project. Yet, they do.Read between the lines and think about whether you want someone with vision and courage at the head of the table.Ask yourselves how much Zimet's opposition is based upon mysogyny and/or antisemitism. Not all, of course, but not none, either. Most of all, keep your heads and stop attacking each other. I am a Democrat and i would like to see a Democratic County Executive.Marcus Tullius Cicero
8:08: There are an awful lot of businesses that got money through Hinchey that went belly up. I wonder if all the money really gets to where it's supposed to be going. In Kingston, several years ago, the mayor was raving about the Noah Hotel. The guy secured a $9 million dollar federal loan through Hinchey, managed to demolish the building that was there, and then "ran out of money". WTF? What did he do with $9 million? There are more stories like that. I think a lot of those "loans" are a scam that we get stuck paying back, and a few palms are greased along the way.
It was only a matter of time for sombe Zimet supporter to claim that telling the unvarnuished truth about Zimet is based upon mysogyny and/or antisemitism.
How as a Sennett supporter and a progressive yourself can you not support Susan Zimet? Why are you backing Hein, a former Republican?
5:19 and the rest of you:Tell the truth, if you are able. Just don't give us snotty characterizations.I am open to hearing the truth. What is it? Not rumors. Not opinion. FACT. I don't doubt there are negative things. For me, they just don't outweigh the positive.
You have got to be kidding. You want to support someone to run a $325 million organization just because they have energy? What about focus? What about the ability to build consensus (a majority of Dems in the Legislature)? What about negotiating contracts that lead to a $4 million a year savings?Susan Zimet is a loose canon and an HR department's nightmare. Why would any Democrat choose sides with a likely result that occurred last year. Hein is worthy of being county administrator, he is certainly worthy of being executive.
Marcus,Sue is a moron, nobody likes her she cares only about herself. If people liked her how did she get voted out of office in the most Democratic town in Ulster County? She got her but handed to her by Bonacic. She is terrible and the voter of UC know that.
9:42 Yes, its true. The only people who don't know it are the Zealots for Zimet.
9:42 -She won Ulster County in the Senate race.Again, more mention of the "nightmare", but no substantive facts. O.K., she got voted out. She also got voted in to two terms. Tell me what she actually DID that was so terrible.
Marcus,Thank you! Just when I give up and think there is nothing but bile in the stomach of Ulster body politic, I read a post like yours.Old Romans never die, they just keep you upbeat!!!...smitty
Sue did not win Ulster County against Bonacic. She won the majority vote of towns in the district. Marlborough, Lloyd, Esopus, and City of Kingston are not in Senate District. If you added them up Sue would have lost Ulster County. Look at what Hinchey, Cahill and VanBlarcum did campared to her. Vanblarcum about doubled her vote. She is terrible.
5:44 - this doesn't make sense. By definition, the towns that aren't in the district, didn't vote -- there's nothing to add up. Susan won more votes in Ulster County than Bonacic. Therefore, she won in Ulster County.
I will support Susan over Bonacic any day of the week
