Deep Breath Alderman Landi, Deep Breath

Alderman Charlie Landi looked pretty foolish at a recent meeting, as he yelled at Alderwoman Shirley Whitlock as she tried (successfully) to save the jobs of three police officers. " I can't in good conscience support a measure to cut out police said Whitlock who lives in Kingston's 4th ward.

Typical Landi lost his cool...what don't you get we're broke said Landi, what don't you get about safety shot back a feisty Whitlock. One thing thing about Shirley she does not back down and is not someone to cross. Than Landi just goes off the deep end.. You gotta watch the below video.

To the credit of both Alderman Landi, Alderwoman Whitlock and the entire Democraitc caucus under the leadership of Majoirty Leader Bill Reynolds, it looks like the council has gotten the tax levy down to 3.1 percent, which is siggnifigantly less than the whopping 6.2 that Mayor Sottile had proposed.

My question is. Why are some of the Alderman always going after the Police. What about the Fire Department ?? Almost a 7 million dollar budget. Start cutting there. Cut the dispatchers, have county 911 dispatch. Cut 4 of the 5 Deputy Chiefs, KPD has only one Deputy Chief. Close two stations, this City only needs one central station. The fire departmnent needs a huge overhaul. They take a fire engine to a vehicle lock-out. This is crazy. Wake up people, whats going on there. Why are they untouchable.

blaber if you think you are such the taxpayer advocate why dont you tell us where to make cuts in the budget. The fact of the matter is that you dont have a clue and we taxpayers cant afford even a 3% raise. And dont quote other cities who are higher. You may live in other cities but I dont.

I am no expert of Kingston's current budget but I am familiar with the budget in general, Sottile wastes a lot of money. His friends get great outside work from the city..you can start by cutting that. No need to pay outside contracters what dpw is more than happy to do. The three percent should be lower but it's better than 6%.

Hayes Clement had a zero percent pledge, it's a shame more alderman did not sign on to it and follow through with it.

Landi made it clear, they will be borrowing big bucks come August because they are artificially Keeping the taxes low for the 2011 budget. Election season? Which one of these clowns is running and is this how they'll run the city for 4 years?

Jeremy - Hayes made a 0% pledge? He was duped when he went to the sewer treatment plant. There is way too much overtime down there - $100,000! They told him that it was all necessary. If it was necessary, why don't they punch in and out?
They don't want anyone to see that they're only there for less than an hour, but they get 3 hours' overtime every night! If he was smart, he would've asked to see their time cards. If they couldn't produce them, then he should've told them that he's voting to cut the overtime. They're jacking up their pay down there and then the council turns to the taxpayers and shrugs their shoulders as if there's nothing they could do. They're just not working hard enough.

What a loud mouth charlie is! How dare he yell at that woman, she is his equal. Maybe Landi, the former under sheriff (talk about jobs one is not qualified for) forgot that.

The was an artical in the Poughkeesie journal about union workers milking overtime to pad thier retirments and that is exactly what happens around here as well.
The workers on the city budget are so used to milking thier days, that it has become common practice.
Whitlock is correct not to want to lose police, and if the city had any balls or brains they would start to overhaul each dept, and make the cuts that are neccessary.
The FD is full of waste, yes they do a dangerous job, and are there when we call, however there are better ways to do thier job for less.
The DPW guys are a joke. I drove by 6 of the working on 3 driveway aprons for 3 days!!!!
Note to CSEA, it was a 1 day job with 3 people in any private sector...
The list goes on and on but no one wants to commit political suicide by stating the obvious, or dont want to fire thier friends.
Just imagine if we got rid of all the dead wood, possibly they would have to find a job someone where and better them selves.
Oh wait, why not just sit around more, pad my hours then retire with nice pension for screwing the taxpayers for 25 years...
See Johnny Luke on the UCDPW, He milked the county for $35,000 a year in OT for 4 years straight, then retired on a $70,000 a year pension.
Crooks I tell ya, and it all starts at the top.
Keep up the good work Shirley, there is waste in them there hills, but no one is man enough to expose it!

Mr. Blaber,

At least Landi and Whitlock are trying to come up with ideas? Right?
What are your two Republicankkkn
friends doing? Anything? I give Shirley and Charlie for credit for doing something.

Whitlock acted like a crazy women. She could disagree and vote no with some form of civil. Yelling at someone only gets someonme to yell back at you. Her attendance record stinks.

Shirley is grand-standing, rarely shows to be counted on, and then wants to lecture? I say Good Job Charlie. Sometimes you got to let them know where you stand. Saw not remotely the same thing you saw Blaber.

Mr. Gillon: My two Republican friends, how cute, it's unfortunite that you can't accept I may be friendly with someone that beat you in an election, get over it. I believe I praised the entire Democratic caucus for their leadership, including Charlie and Alderwoman Whitlock. Did you read what I wrote Bob or just look at the pictures?

baahhaaahahahaha that old guy looked like he was going to have a stroke and that lady looked like she was gunna mess him up once they got outside. Where do you meet these people Blabs?

Hey Johnson-Democrat. perhaps if you attended the committee meetings you would have heard the suggestions made by Turco-levin. In fact, when she suggested reducing alderman's pay, it was the democrats that nixed that idea. She put quite a few suggestions on the table. So start attending some meetings and glean some facts before spouting off. Don't get your info secondhand. As to Landi's rants, it is getting old!
