Turco Levin Wants Term Limits

Alderwoman Turco-Levin, a Republican who represents Kingston's first ward has brought forth legislation that would limit aldermen from serving more than four (2 yr)terms; and the mayor and Alderman large from serving 2 (4 yr) terms.

I don't support this on principal, I am not a fan of term limits. I feel term limits come place at election day, if the people don't want you in they have the ability to throw you out.

Alderman Bill Reynolds, who is the council's majority leader said he first proposed the idea a decade ago..lol...classic!

Here is the quote and wording unedited from the Freeman's story on the proposal today:

Alderman Bill Reynolds, D-Ward 7, the council’s majority leader, said he pitched a plan for term limits almost a decade ago, but nothing came of it.

Reynolds, who is serving his ninth term, said he wanted the mayor and alderman-at-large to be limited to three four-year terms. City lawmaker positions would be limited to six two-year terms under his proposal.

Majority Leader Reynolds is a good example of why term limits are unnecessary, Alderman Reynolds is a good friend, got me started in politics, and he was for a long time my Alderman. Reynolds loves Kingston, knows the people in his ward and is excellent at constituent services, which is why he is always reelected.

If I want him representing me for another 10 years and he wants to do the job..why not??

There are more important issues the city should be focusing on than term limits.

Ill tell you why Blabes
Reynolds and the rest of the "cant hack the real world" gang, have failed this city miserably over the last 9 years
Look around boy, we are the welfare capitol of NY, not just the first capitol.
Not once has any city leader done anything to develope new business or ideas locally
Take a walk thru uptown, midtown and even downtown any hour of the night, and tell me how many stores ore booming, and how many people are pushing carts with thier lives in them?
The working class of Kingston is almost gone now and we have replaced them people that are already feeding off the system

FYI, Turco-Levin and Tom Turco are not related in any way.

Hey 9:54, take a look at CNN article today that says 1 in 7 Americans are on food stamps. That should tell you there is a world of hurt outside of Kingston, NY too...so no need to be quite so down on the town...so look around 9:54 and instead of complaining, what have YOU come up with to help??

All i have done has taken the public education that was provided to us all, opened my own business with a bank loan (thats paid off now) keep my yard clean, pay my taxes, raise a few kids that dont need assistance, have never accepted $1.00 from my government for a bailout, handout, dinner, house, clothes, been responsible sexually as not to have kids I couldnt afford, lived within my means and have learned that I can have an opinion becuase I have voted in every election since 1987!
I can tell that with 8,000,000 people and business 90 miles from my home, there must be more than just welfare cases that might be intersted in a tax break for thier family or business, and would solicit them instead of what the local goup of politicans have attracted over the years.
I can tell that you need the state, county city or some municipality to feed you and yours (either on the system, or working for it) and dont see anything wrong with the govt being the largest employer in the country and think capitolist pigs like me are the problem.
Kingston should be the Vale Colorado of the east, a weekend resort town for Ny's wealthy to get away from the city, not a dumping ground for the filth of NY...
Thats how I see it, and personally dont care if you approve of it.

So i guess all the voters of the city of Kingston are stupid! That is essentially what Andi is saying. The voters are so stupid and unable to vote for the best person to do the job. So government must step in and take care of business. Thats because we need MORE government control...right?!? We do have term limits on common council members...every 2 years...its called an election. Shame on Andi for implying that we the people who go out on election day to say our peace by voting are stupid!

Amen, 3:46!

This is another cheap'n'easy political stunt served up by someone for whom I had much higher expectations.

Term limits are working in other States and even a neighboring County has signed onto the idea and made it law this week.

Legislate Democracy...... Yeah great idea! How about letting the voters decide term limits? One council member can not carry the day in any body.
No offense, but this is a stupid, naive idea from a political neophyte.
