Judge Gilpatric Fends Off Family Challenge

Judge James P. Gilpatric can rest easy after easily winning the Kingston city judgeship yesterday after beating out his challenger and cousin, Kingston attorney Michael Bruhn Jr., and getting more votes than any other city-wide candidate that ran yesterday. Judge Gilpatric has done wonders for Kingston city court including establishing a court that specifically deals with cases of domestic violence and drug court. A very sincere congratulations to Judge Gilpatric on a well deserved win.

I guess some of you folks think you hit a sort of tri-fecta, huh?

Really, all you have now is:

1.A judge who is more eager to feel sorry for convicted criminals than to impose the punishments their crimes deserve,

2.A council who is, corporately, more willing to create and restructure its law to better enable the criminals to keep on living the lifestyle they're living (between convictions), and

3.A mayor whose policies exploit the criminal element in Kingston so as to be patted on the back for "providing services" to them.

You know, people get the officials they deserve. Good luck!

Thank you Plessy,we love you too. You sound like a real civic open minded person with the best interest of our community in mind.

Regretfully, I did not see any of your signs in the community so I had NO opportunity to vote for you. Please make yourself more visible the next time around...smitty

Imagine if we had a DA who felt the same way? There is still room for improvement, I guess. A tri-fecta is great, but the que-nella is better!

Gilpatric ran a great race. He is a shining example of how someone can overcome problems in their life and become a productive citizen. Congrats Judge!!

I would like to compliment J. Michael Bruhn, Jr. for running a clean campaign. He could have turned it into a smear campaign but ran a clean, honest race against Gilpatric. A man like that deserves to be a public servant and I don't care what position he runs for next - he's got my vote for not playing into the typical politcal bullshit that normally takes place in a political race. Congratulations to Gilpatric and thank you to Bruhn.

That shows that you have no clue as to what the Bruhn camp was up too during the campaign: smears galore, inuendo against current public servants, assaults against the integrity of those occupying a seat he wants. If we've learned anything this November, you don't get a job cause daddy is a judge. He probably would have faired better if his folks didn't get nasty.

Maybe some of his supporters were that way - but no one in his campaign behaved that way. Bruhn is a down-to-earth, honest guy and he ran his campaign that way too. He never said one negative thing about Gilpatric. A man like that deserves our respect.

Respect isn't given, its earned. Bruhn did nothing to earn respect from me. He sat back and watched his cousin being viciously attacked by his supporters. I want to thank the Freeman for endorsing Bruhn. That editorial did not give me one reason to vote for Bruhn, like I intended, It was cruel attack on Gilpatric and it swayed my vote. So thank you Freeman, now I can say I voted for the winner!

Mike Bruhn jr's public persona was that of a nice guy, family man. Behind the scenes he was as nasty and mean as any politician in Ulster County.

His father? I have known him professionaly and privately for over 25 years. During the campaign he wouldn't even say hello because he knew I was backing Gilpatric.

I will never vote for any Bruhn again.

The better man won this race. Judge Gilpatric is honest, hardworking and sincere in his dedication. No family legacy to fulfill.

The election is over and Gilpatric has won. Congratulations are due to him. There is no question he will do a fine job serving the people of Kingston as City Judge. Now is the time for healing and putting the past where it belongs -in the past!!! If you feel as though you must continue to rehash the campaign how about doing one of two things: (1) be specific as to what inapprorpiate conduct you are alleging happened (say exactly who did or said what) or 2) use your real name, none of this anonymous crap. If we cannot move on this bitterness can and will go on and on forever.
