A Message from Our Chair, Hon. John Parete

Dear Friends:

This year, we’re paying close attention to a number of town races that will be close; a number of seats in the County Legislature will also be hotly contested. In addition, we have the opportunity to elect Jonathan Sennett to be the first Democratic District Attorney in more than thirty years. In order for our Democratic Candidates to be successful on election day, we have to roll up our sleeves and get to work persuading our fellow Democrats, friends, and others to join us in our campaign by volunteering, spreading the good word, and helping to find a way to pay for what will most likely be a very expensive campaign season. In the end, our candidates are well-qualified and well-suited to serve in the offices that we will work hard to get them elected to.

The Democrats who were elected to form the first majority in the Ulster County Legislature in recent (and not so recent) memory have done a good job focusing on making sure that the money that is allocated is well spent, without waste. They have focused on addressing the hard realities of the excessive spending undertaken by their Republican predecessors and the fact that revenues aren’t fulfilling the rosy budget projections prepared by the Republicans. And the jail is finally open.We hope that you will join us in our efforts. Contact your local town committee or your favorite candidate to learn more about the issues that we face and to find out about tangible ways that you can make a positive difference in the outcome of this election.

John R. Parete, Chair

Ulster County Democratic Committee

Dear Mr. Parete,

The best thing you can do is to make public appearances around the county with Mr. Sennett. Ask Mr. Hinchey to do the same. Ask Mr. Bradley to get a job somewhere else.

These are the steps necessary to heal the divide you have caused by backing the conservative candidate for so long.

Instead of complaining there is no money as your people what can be done to change that. Dems will come together. They just need leadership they can respect.

Lou Resnick just rolled over in his grave. Now there was a democrat with class!

Morris...Are you kidding? Poor Mr Resnick has been spinning like a top for the past 10 months.

Hey Jeremy, Thanks for being around again. Keep you spirits and the Blog up. You are a civic gift to this community....

John Dwyer for Chair. It's a conflict of interest to be Party Chair and Election Commissioner. His treatment of Sennett has been disgraceful. The only reason the committee hasn't 86'd him yet is that he was partly responsible for the 21-12 majority in the legislature. Should that majority erode by 2 or 3 seats, expect some real fireworks. ;)

Morris: John Dwyer has been far worst then Parete ever could be toward Sennett. Mr.Dwyer is someone I used to admire but certianly not anymore.

Parete wasn't responsible for the turn around in the legislature. The people that were aren't in the public's purvue and never will be.

John Dwyer would be a disaster - John Parete is far superior to him.

Brian Shapiro for chair then. He's the most intelligent light in a body full of dim bulbs.

John Parete has been an excellent chair. Why do you think there is a Democratic Majority in the legislature? Why do you think there is a Democratic Sheriff? Just because he does not play the New Paltz game you can't take it. If you let Zimet and Schacter overthrow him you are all a bunch of fools. This new far left movement only has legs because of how Bush is hated. After this election things will be different and you will beg for a chair like Parete. I have been around when Resnick was chair, he would never stand for the New Paltz nonsense.

Bruce,

With the death of the Republican party in Ulster County, many of the not-so-dearly departed have become the conservative insurgents into our party. Take the fella Mike Hein mentioned in another story for example.

I will agree that by pandering to any extremists, we run the risk of a Republican ressurection. Certainly, the 2 idiot Georges have been the external force driving the democratic popularity, but now we are on the proverbial clock, and internally, on the local level, Deomcrats must behave as Democrats, not Republicans. Liberal is not a 4 letter word.

Bruce -the fact that you think progressives are far left is more of an indication that you're out of touch with reality. You are the right-wing,the far right. Your conservative views are no longer intellectually valid. We have scientific evidence to prove that you are without ethics or morals. The rest of the world has moved on to higher ground. You have been left behind. You cannot stop this movement towards intelligence in government. (Zimet??) The attempts that you make are only accelerating your own demise by shining the spotlight on your mentally deficient positions. Use your time more efficiently by seeking a place in this country that suits your outdated methods more comfortably. Being obsolete and waiting to be "socially exiled" until you have no viability is foolish. Instinctually, you should know this. You cannot prevail. Move on with your life somewhere more in keeping with your views.

Bruce, at best you are a republican. We, the dems, don't want you, your dirty cigarette store, or your self-entitled rich boy candidtate. The republicans need people, why don't you go join them, you will see they are your people. (No offense to republicans) You will be happier there, amongst your own.
Only you, the Landis, the Parates, Provenzano and Dart and a few money boys want Dadly so bad you have, in fact, already left the Democratic party. He is not our candidate, and now, he never will be.
Your devotion to a DA candidate with no skills in violent crimes AT ALL (NEVER A SINGLE GUN, BURG, ROB, MURDER, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, CHILD VICTIM, COMPUTER CRIMES --- NADA!!)is so intensely misdirected it demands red flags be raised -- why, why must you and your cohorts have someone so incredibly ill suited for our (tragically) violence plagued community...
You tout him as some sort of expert on the jail... but why does everyone who wants jutice to see the light of day on the jail NOT WANT DADLY?? Is it because he will be giving the keys to the DA's office to the bad guys in excahnge FOR ALL THAT MONEY YOU GUYS GAVE HIM??
Why have some defense attorneys given him THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS?
Your vicseral attacks on Sadly's opponents, your failure to address his inablity to address any form of violent crime and the generally nasty and vicious tone of your posts indicate that you are very emotional on this subject, again, much like your cohorts.
Who are you protecting? Who do you think Dadly will protect? What are you so incredibly scared of; your terror echoes in every syllable you write?
At best, your a republican, at worst your a scared thief, or such "good friends" with the thieves you have become intesnsely emotionally immersed in this race...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
I wonder which one it is....

8:35 - Would Resnick have allowed the support for Bradley? I don't think so....

Mrs. Resnick asked me to restore some backbone to this party. I'm on it. If you don't like it,too bad. I picked Sennett. Bradley represented the corrupt influence that infested the party. Old allegiances were malignant. Time for new blood.

The Democrats are in power DESPITE John Parete.

He tried to push Hochberg for Sheriff last year. He supported Beisel for Family Court Judge two years ago. He backs a non-Dem now for DA. He recruited people to primary against incumbent Democratic Legislators two years ago, and again this year.

He blatantly cheated to get his candidate DA in, and it still blew up in his face.

When are you going to get it through your heads that Parete has done more to divide this party in the last two years than anyone in memory!

His total lack of morals and leadership is not just sad, but dangerous. He's stepping down next year, not by choice but, because he knows he will never be elected as Chair again.

Good riddance.

Poster 8:06PM is a complete moron. Hochburg has been out of UC because he is in the reserves fighting this war. He never supported anyone for Judge before the convention. What incumbent Democratic legislators were primaried two years ago and this year? Open seats are fair game.

I know this bothers people but you can't win without the paretes and hinchys support in Ulster County.

This person is having tough time with the truth. Unfortunately that is par for the anti-parete people.

Hochburgh left AFTER the 2005 primary

5:26 PM said : "He never supported anyone for Judge before the convention."

He and Cahill BOTH tried to push Kevin's cousin Beisel, but the rank and file shut them down and chose the best candidate, Tony McGinty.

5:26 PM said : "What incumbent Democratic legislators were primaried two years ago and this year?"

Liepmann, Zimet, Rodriguez, Lomita, Terpening....

Wake up assh0le...

9:54 PM - There were more Legislature challenges that Parete encouraged....give me a minute I'll find them for you.

Anonymous said...

lipmann, zimet, rodriquez were not in primary as far as i know. please give us the names and results of primarys. terpning and lomita had 2 people vying for open seat that was occuied by republican. under current leaders there have been more candidates than ever, a sign of success.

the only asshole is the 9:54 poster and a liar also.

Zimet and Rodriguez weren't primaried, but attempts were made to recruit people to do so. The prospective recruits told Parete to drop dead. Same in Donaldson's district, Gregorius' district and Bischoff's district. Parete was more successful against Liepman until someone dropped out of that race, and he failed to get Roscoe on the ticket in District 7, though he remains in the race as a spoiler on the conservative and independence lines, just like Jr.

Zimet and her idiotic followers are getting nervous. They are losing seats and won't be in power next year. Liepman gone, Berardi gone, Silvestro never win, the pickups are decidedly opposed to the Zimet group. Hector has already jumped ship and is looking to latch on to winning group, so take him off the Donaldson/Zimet gang.

A loss for Zimet and Donaldson but a huge win for the Democratic Party and reidents of UC.

There must be some genetic tendancy for stupidity in the Parete family.

What kind of morons push for their own party to lose?
