Kingston Mayor's Race: Noble Strongly Looking at a Run

Sources: Alderman at Large Noble Running for Mayor

Who's Running:

(Democrats) Jim Noble, Shayne Gallo, Hayes Clement, David Donaldson

(Republicans) Ron Polacco, Rich Cahill, Andi Turco Levin, Jean Jacobs

(Dark Horses that could emerge) Nick Woerner, Chris Koenig

Jim Noble has said publicly since Sottile made the decision to call it quits that he had little interest in running for mayor. Now it looks as if Noble has changed his tune, telling people close to him that he is running for Kingston Mayor.

What about Shayne? Shayne Gallo had previously stated he would run for mayor only if Noble did not, so with Noble gearing up to enter the Kingston Mayor's race what will Gallo do? There may come a point that Gallo is in too deep and forced to move forward with the race regardless of who runs, if this happens it will benefit freshman Alderman Hayes Clement.

Hayes Clement who represents Ward 9, is a good guy and an Alderman that has shown basic competency in his ward but in no way is he going to be Kingston's next mayor. Hayes is smart and has done all the right things to quickly establish himself as a rising star in Democratic politics, going to county functions (something Gallo and Noble have not done), throwing around money and hosting events for important Democrats, and establishing himself as a businessman that has the right skills and temperament to run the city.

Fact is though, we don't know what kind of Mayor Hayes would be, he has been on the political scene for all of 10 minutes and his candidacy is really a lot of hype by the political establishment. We do know Clement is a Conservative Democrat at best, some would say he is a Democrat in name only and I would be hard pressed to find anyone to call him Progressive.

Nick Woerner and Chris Koenig are both friends of mine and I think both would be strong candidates. If either run, the race would be wide open and really anyone's for the taking.

Out of the Democratic candidates running at this time, Kingston would be well served under Shayne Gallo or Jim Noble both have the experience and best intentions for Kingston. I honestly remain undecided on the two because they are both great, although I am leaning at this time toward Shayne Gallo.

On the Republican side there is a field of five candidates or so but the nomination will go to Ron Polacco or Richard Cahill. Democrats should be able to keep the office of mayor in 2011 unless Kingston Democrats put up a candidate like Hayes Clement who could lose to either one of them.
In the next two months the race for the respective nominations for both parties will heat up and we will have a better look at who's serious and who's not. No matter what, the mayor's race is something I'm looking forward. It's the first open seat for mayor in 23 years and will be fun to watch, stay tuned.

Noble will not run.

Woerner would be a disaster and would get killed.

Hayes needs some seasoning.

Donaldson is a good guy and may be what Kingston needs.

Gallo has the name and machine behind him.

Koenig is a Democrat? You wouldn't know that by talking to him. He may be better off trying to get the Republican endorsement.

Who cares about the other side, they are losing anyway.

I heard Cahill on the radio this am. He sounded much calmer and more collected than his last campaign. If he runs a positive campaign, he could be much tougher to beat. If Clement is the candidate, Cahill beats him.

Clement only became a city resident 2 years ago. He has some nerve running for Mayor.

Anonymous said...

I hear that the Democrats in charge have threatened Gallo's job if he runs for Mayor. That's damn sleazy.

Anonymous said...

Clement is the only candidate who Cahill could beat and hopefully the democratic committee grasps that truth.

Either Noble or Shayne beat Cahill with ease.

Any democrat beats Levin or Polacco.

The city democrats threatened Shayne's corp. council gig when he expressed an interest in running against Larry Ball. They have nothing to threaten him with if he runs for Mayor. If Noble decides to run, he will keep Shayne on as Corp. Council, if Hayes is the nominee, and by some miracle gets elected, he is going to bring in some attorney from outside the area to take the job anyway. Obviously, , if a republcan manages to win, Shayne is out anyway.

Bottom line, they have nothing to hold over his head this time and they know it.

Rich Cahill can't win.

Anonymous said...

Cahill is a loser. Levin and Donaldson race would be best for the city since they both have the city at heart. Donaldson more experience but Levin more more heart and less experience might help the city at this point how worse can it get

Koenig runs winner winer chicken dinner....the Good old days would be welcomed

MAJORITY LEADER WILLIAM P. REYNOLDS FOR ALDERMAN AT LARGE!

Anonymous said...

Koenig Reynolds would be a good team....add it to the poll.

415 Wouldn't be the first time.

We need a real man to run for mayor someone like a Gallo, Koing or even Woerner that can stand up and challenge Cahill when he makes the bizare claims they will make on the trail.

Clement and Noble will be tough debating Cahill. Gallo will fucking destroy him, he's blunt to the point and really good on the issues. Koeing and Woerner would debate well too, although Chris gets frustrated too easy sometimes.

705: Frank was a great mayor, I long for those days again.

If you want a dem who is would not be part of the good old boys and get kingston back on track Koenig is the man.

Anonymous said...

Levin is a joke. The Rep line is Cahill's to lose. Cahill beats Hayes, Donaldson, or Noble. He loses to Gallo or Koenig.

6:50,

You can hate Cahill. Saying he doesn't love Kingston is just not true. I don't support him but he clearly loves Kingston.

Hayes Clement IS all hype and thank you Jeremy Blaber for being a voice of reason. I am glad I found your websitelast week it's great!

Hayes' only government experience is being an Alderman for one budget cycle. He made a pledge that called for a zero percent tax hike for Kingston and than voted for a three percent hike, yikes!

How can I trust him when the only promise he ever made to me ( a Kingtson taxpayer) he broke. My alderwoman voted against the hike and she is the one always attacked for being a liberal, go figure.

I know people will write on here, well you need an outsider. yeah fine but you also need someone that has experience with a municipal budget, someone that has dealt with unions and frankly someone that has stronger ties to Kingston.

Bill Reynolds has always been someone that comes off strong and level headed in the paper. I really would have confidence in him if he ran.

Nick Woerner is the only one out of the names I heard that has ever run a government, he was the c.f.o. of the town of Ulster for 4 years and did a good job dispite what Jim Quigley has to say.

The more I read about Quigley the less I like the guy, we were duped. He raised taxes, froced out a good chief of police, and has a pretty foul mouth.

I loved the YNN story about Squigley showing up Saturday afternoons to meet with people, good to see the Supervisor is at work at least one day a week!

I was amused as you said every democrat was woderful and you forgot Donaldson. Then you named two Republicans and listed Polacco first because you know the democrats want Palocco because if he ran unoposed he would lose just as he is going to lose sixth ward to Ball if the democrats have enough sense to nominate her.

Anonymous said...

To 5:32pm You said the democratic party has nothing to hold over Shayne,s head. You are wrong. They threatened him against Judge Ball and they can do it again if he attempts to primary the candidate that they want with the same loss of the corporation council job. Thay claim the mayor is for Jim Noble and He can fire anybody he wants to.

Anonymous said...

Shane Gallo and Jim Noble do not have the party committee behind them, Hayes Clement does for FYI. He will recieve the backing of committee and rightly so. Noble is viewed as an extension of the dysfunction of current administration and so is Gallo. It truly is time for some change in city govt. I am a democrat and feel strongly about bringing in new blood Jeremy.

At times like this, we cannot ignore the obvious elephants in the room.

While Donaldson is qualified for the position and may have the ability to do an excellent job, due to health issues he cannot run an effective city wide campaign and his vocal limitations make it unlikely that he could hold his own at campaign events and/or debates.

In his limited legislative district, he can manage, city wide it just won't work.

Let's also remember that this is the candidate who could not get his own committee to support him for comptroller.
Sad but all too true.

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't Noble get the Charter mandated ethics committee started - 9 years overdue?

Anonymous said...

The committees job is to nominate and support electable candidates and then help them win. If the committee does not recognize that Hayes cannot win in a democrati dominated community that overwhelmingly supported Don Williams and Vince Bradley then they deserve what they will get. Mayor Rich Cahill.

let's also remember that the democratic committee has to stand up for what the democratic administrations have accomplished. They cannot distance themselves from the policies of their own people without once again ensuring a Cahill administration.

Wake up and recognize what is what.

Anonymous said...

Hunh? "A democratic dominated community that overwhelmingly supported Don Williams and Vince Bradley" is precisely what Clement, who by Blaber's own reckoning is a "Conservative Democrat," would appeal to.

It's a big added bonus that, unlike some of his other Dem opponents, he's one of the few not feeding off the friends-and-family insider trough that taxpayers now provide for the good ol' boys.

Go, Hayes!

2:31. what exactly has the democratic administration accomplished? Lets see. #1 we have higher taxes and lowered the reserve fund going into 2011 #2 they failed to keep an eye the safety net program (auditing the books) #3 Has maintained a contentious attitude to the union which baffles me since they negotiated all contracts with the Unions. #4 The city looks the most unkempt in recent decades. #5 people are leaving Kingston in droves. Need I go on? You cannot blame that on the Republicans. Yes, a new adminstration is needed. The democrats have had their turn and have f**#@@d up royally! We need a strong Mayor who realizes that we have to go into an almost austere budget. Maybe we need the party of "no" as democrats like to label the Republicans. The very life of this city depends on it.
But if Hayes can accomplish it, so what if he is an outsider? Our best and brightest are leaving the city to go off to college, never to return. Few are coming in from outside the area but if they come tap into that resource, encourage them to run for public office.
Thru the years all we seem to get are recycled politicians.

Wrong on this one, Blabs. I'm a Kingston native and a lifelong Democrat but the thought of Jimmy "Hear Nothing, Say Nothing, Do Nothing" Noble as mayor is disgusting to me.

He hasn't done one thing in how many years to suggest he deserves the office. It's just more of the same take take take take take take take take, for his relatives and buddies. Awful.

Time for a change, Dem or GOP!!! But NO Noble.

Please see Newburgh...or any city in the northeast....get a clue

Anonymous said...

the city does'nt need a phony like rich cahill who is such a b s artist and is only running because he never won anything in his life and when he did he screwed that up

Anonymous said...

If Clement does run. I'll vote for Rich Cahill.

Anonymous said...

Glad we have cleared things up.
The democrats are going to run a campaign against their own policies.
Sounds like a brilliant strategy . . .

Anonymous said...

One thing we CAN agree upon.

Carnright for District Attorney.

Anonymous said...

Blaber here's a question for you: if Woerner runs do you support him? Cause you were in pretty deep with Quigley when you turned on Woerner?

Anonymous said...

not sure who i would suppot but i know one thing for sure we dont need a bull sh-ting lawyer like rich cahill who has no clue how to run a city he can't even control his father who flipped the finger to someone on tv one night when the person did'nt agree with his bull sh-t

Anonymous said...

9:59,

You want a Mayor who "controls" his family? Really??

Jeremy Blaber said...

637: I'm sorry we will have to find something else to agree on, I'm voting for Sennett for district attorney.

If Nick ran for mayor, yeah, I'd support him.

7:36,

If Cahill is a "phony", then you think he is someone else. Who do you think he really is?

Anonymous said...

It is not we think he is, it is who Rick Cahill thinks he is.I have known him since I was a kid. He believes he is someone of great importance and whose opinion anyone would want to hear. In fact, it is the opposite. He has always been a narcissist, thinking he is some sort of big shot because his great grand father or something other distant relative was once a city court judge. Whoop dee do!

The only reason the paper calls him is that there is a sever dearth of republicans in Kingston and they are almost guaranteed to get some sort of ridiculous comment from him. He does not see himself the fool that almost every other person of even the most modest amount of intelligence sees him. He is a joke, a big goddamn joke.

11:09,

Are you a Kingston firefighter by any chance?

Anonymous said...

Noble? Running for what? Or running from? Hopefully running from being Mayor.! No more of this administration. Time for a fresh new crop of citizens to govern. No preconceived concepts. Throw out the old, bring in the new. Old obviously didn't work. So would need to have Reynolds in the same category as Noble. No, No and No. Both are nice guys but not for the task of running a city.

Anonymous said...

So Noble's a "nice guy"? Maybe if you're one of his relatives, Twaafskill bar cronies or a muckety muck in the AOH. Otherwise, good luck getting him to give you the time of day. Known him many many years and, sorry, but he's way too uncommunicative, unimaginative and conflict-averse to be mayor, especially now.

Anonymous said...

11:09 AM with all due respect to your quote: Whoop dee do! LMAO! :)

Anonymous said...

I've known Rick Cahill since kindergarten at Meagher School. He's a really good guy who cares for this city.

I wish people could get to know the real Rick Cahill.

Anonymous said...

the cahills are real honest people alright lol his father talks about what a good church goer he is and the flips the finger at people behind thier backs and son rich gets his thrills at calling other people foul and disgusting names oh yes they are real trust worthy guys so elect them and we will all be in the pooe house or hell (phonys)

Anonymous said...

I will always remember Rick Cahill for a few things.

1: Using that poor woman with cancer for political purposes.

2: Never completing his audit of Kingston's bills

3: Using the CSEA "leadership" for political gain, and in the mean time, the rank and file are now screwed and losing thier jobs.

4: Being a whiny little busy body sticking his nose where it doesn't belong.

Anonymous said...

Does anybody have a tape recording of Jim saying "them ??????". He has repeated it his whole life.

Anonymous said...

4:16: I would like somebody" to stick their nose" in where they don't normally belong. Might have prevented safety net issues, the Mathews debacle, and any other shady dealings at City Hall. I, for one, am tired of being in the dark when it comes to issues affecting the taxpayers. The so called transparency at City Hall has not been effective. Just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. As the Indians used to say "you speak in forked tongues" (probably not a PC comment but too bad.)
