Hugh Reynolds 7/7/11

Excerpt from Hugh Reynolds' column in this weeks Kingston Times

Kingston follies

It’s still almost twelve weeks to the primaries, but already Kingston candidates are strutting their stuff.

Democratic candidate Shayne Gallo stole a march on his opponents by latching onto the high-ground public-safety issue. Other candidates had been waxing large on such game-changers as smoking in the parks, fixing up sidewalks and fireworks.

Republican Rich Cahill’s blurb on moving the city’s fireworks display to the Fourth rather than a week before was timely, if somewhat disingenuous. Cahill, who certainly knows better, said that former mayor T.R. Gallo staged the city celebration the last week in June so as to avoid conflicts with Saugerties’ traditional display on the real holiday.

Baloney. T.R. Gallo didn’t give a damn about Saugerties, Esopus, either. He was crazy about vintage rock-and-roll acts, which came at a premium on the Fourth, but for a song the week before. “Sort of like roses on Valentine’s Day,” observed Republican mayoral hopeful Andi Turco-Levin.

Andi Turco Levin's intelligence is a UNIVERSE above ANY of the other Mayoral candidates, in my opinion,
even her off the cuff humorous takes on things is refreshing,,,

I'd LOVE to see Kingston after three years of Turco-Levin's administration,,

Fresh Air she is,,, SMART, innovative, Fresh Air !!

I too agree that Andi's is a refreshing perspective of what this city needs and a little bit of humor makes it palatible of what we have to do to get it back. It ain't gonna' be easy but with Andi at the helm I feel we will have the motivation. Andi has always worked in the private sector and can identify with issues particular to that industry. No government based job for her.

Andi is not that smart, if she was she would not be running for mayor.

I see Cahill is now complaining about the fact that Reynolds didn't mention that he brought up Gallo's idea three years ago...Well Rich if you did, no one was listening. And you clearly have moved onto more important things like making sure our fireworks are on the proper day. When the City doesn't have enough money to fill pot holes, you would like to increase the cost of a fireworks show that is being financed through private donations. Good move....you are really shaking some cages with that one.

9:51 Was that an attempt at humor?

I agree with 9:51.
Plus she is not as great as everyone, including herself, say she is. Pretty conceited and certainly egotistical.

10:27 don't you mean Cahill?

Turco -Levin is a Sinagra choice; nothing more need be said.
