OBAMA GAINS 15 POINT LEAD OVER MCCAIN

Barack finally has his bounce. For weeks many political experts and pollsters have been wondering why the race between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain had stayed so tight, even after the Illinois senator wrested the nomination from Hillary Clinton. With numbers consistently showing rock-bottom approval ratings for President Bush and a large majority of Americans unhappy with the country's direction, the opposing-party candidate should, in the normal course, have attracted more disaffected voters. Now it looks as if Obama is doing just that.

That poll was predominantly Democrats. While it's good news that he's outpolling Kerry, he still hasn't outpolled Dukakis. I hope he doesn't come crashing down in October like they did. He's still not carrying the states that he needs to take the WH.

This Newsweek poll is encouraging but others show a much closer race.
While some are upset that Obama didn't take public financing, I'm not. Politics isn't bean bag, and these Republicans will throw everything at him. He's shown his toughness by taking some hits but he clearly established that he won't be "swiftboated". Hillary helped to make him a stronger candidate.

I don't care what financing choice he made. I do care that he made one choice early in the election and commented how important public financing was and then when he realized he would be able to raise a great deal of money completely changed his tune. All reports are that he did not even attempt to talk to McCain about a compromise like he said he would. This seems to be an emerging habit of his saying one thing and doing another later on...it is the third time he has done this. That is somewhat distressing.

At least McCain will kick the right-wingers in the teeth next year. Right now, Obama seems to want to embrace them more than McCain does. McCain is a slick liar who swings to the left. He reverts back to his liberal Democratic roots after he gets what he wants out of the red base.
