The Real Problem in Mid Town

The press conference to "save our city" was held in front of Henry St., just 24 hours after a major raid by Sottile and Urgent that netted about 34 arrests. Webb, Cahill, Walker and the rest of the usual suspects attended, grandstanding, at an event that was designed to take back Henry street. However, not many people were there and only a few from mid-town Kingston, it seems from the lack of participation the majority of people are happy with the current administration's already aggressive approach in making Kingston safe. And, while, the grandstander's were standing on the streets with signs and no solutions, Kingston's finest and the Sheriff's department patrolled up and down mid-town doing the real work in making sure that Kingston and it's residents are safe.

Notice the police car behind Phil Cosme, there was a very strong presence of police in mid-town on Friday afternoon. Is it me or is there something wrong with Cosme.

I think that it is just you.

It does not take a whole lot of talent to decode the subliminal point being made in your posting that photo - Is that squad car coming for Old Coke-me?!? - but, no. I definitely think that it IS just you.

The rally? That's exactly what needed to happen months and months ago. With the mayor and some lawmakers figuring prominantly within it.

You call it grandstanding, but it is not. It's local people communicating a desire to take back their neighborhood and city, AND their leaders providing encouragment and pledging support.

NOW... When Mayor Sottile returns from vacation to a successful raid that was planned in his absence, and states that the drug dealers will be watched even when they think no one is around... THAT'S grandstanding!

That same statement, word for word, could have and should have been very effectively made by the Chief or his representative, not this mayor. After all, the PD will be doing the watching! And hopefully local people, who will report suspicious activity to the police.

Coming from this mayor, with his history of poo-pooing the crime problem, the statement was laughable.

Moral Leadership is a positive thing; it should be encouraged among gvt officials and expected by the electorate!

"...a major raid by Sottile and URGENT..."?

Wow. I think that's all I have to say. Wow.

Sottile never said there was no crime and he was not on vacation when the raid was planned...it's been planned months in advance. Sottile has consistently stood up for the people and because of that I'm able to sleep at night.

Jeremy,

Please post something that refers to your ORIGINAL post on this matter; namely that the raid has been two months in the planning.

Thank you for being honest and balanced.

Rob Moody

PS

I know it's a stretch but, can you also please post something that indicates the daytes of Mayor Sottile's two vacation periods this Summer past? It's OK to publish that... it's public record and the truth never hurt anybody.

Blaber, is this your blog, the one that is currently receiving a bunch of crap from people upset that you post material r/t Yankee Jim? If so, I've posted your link on my blog the Politically Correct Apostate which receives a lot of traffic and mentioned that readers should visit your blog because you aren't a typical chickenshit

25 plus citizens came out to stand in the hot afternoon to make a public statement to our elected officials. No food, no booze brought them there- just a real concern for the welfare and safety of all Kingstonians. They were not just the usual suspects, since I am one of those "suspects".

People stopped their cars and asked for our leaflets, others honked their horns in support. I was amazed at the cross section who supported us as they drove by. Young women of color, some with children in theor cars, members of the Hispanic community, older folks, business people. There are a lot of us- beyond the "usual suspects" who want crime to be dealt with consistently and strongly.
Many voters believe that the consistent pressure put on this Admiinistration for over a year now led to this "change of heart, change of perception on the part of our elected officials. That and the barrage of bullets that cut across our streets of two weeks.

Those same drug dens have been there for YEARS. Residents have named them and nothing was done until now. WHY? Because Project Urgent is now up and running. While the Mayor and others buried their heads in the sand, called us PROFILERS, ignored us and tried delibrately to silence us, sold the City the lie that is was a case of "Perception", real Law Enforcement went to work.

By the way, the rash of shooting will not show up on the CRIME STATS. Gun possession is not an FBI stat. Drug dealing is not an FBI stat. Remeber that come election day when the Mayor says he did all he could.

"If you look at the amount of money this community spends on police protection particularly in the Midtown area, we're doing everything we can", the Mayor's own words after young Lightfoot was gunned down on our streets. Quoted in the Freeman Jan. 2007

THESE PICTURES SAY IT ALL. A MAYOR CANDIDATE WHO TAKES MONEY FROM A CONVICTED JOHN AND A DRUG FELON, AND THE DRUG FELON HIMSELF (DOES HE EVEN HAVE A JOB BY THE WAY?)

pcapostate, are you afraid of jews?Do they have an undue influence over you that you attribute to their religion? If so then you need to focus on how theocracy in all religion is letting this happen. To endorse any one of them is to endorse your oppressor.Keep America free from religious sects'political interference.Only then will we secure our right to worship or not in the way we choose.

Hey Jeremy are you a safest city supporter?. I see pics of you all over the different blogs I see no show shirley whitlock again absent from that rally what does she stand for anything? who does she endorse for DA? she's your choice Blaber so tell us what she has done in that ward and where she stands so far it's not-a-word- whitlock and no-show-shirley, how can anyone vote for her if she isn't been seen or heard from?. are you her political advisor Jeremy? if you are she needs to say or do something.

To 1035

Let me answer that question. Why
do I support Whitlock? Shirley
will get my vote because she talks
common sence. Ward 4 will not change overnight but I know she will start to go to work right away. She will do the right thing
Shirley will not look to grab all
the spotlight like another person in the race is doing. Whitlock is the real thing.

Jeremy Blaber said...

to 1035 am, I am absolutely not in favor of the Kingston Safest Col. or any other organization that wants to be a state within a state. The simple fact of the matter is that Gordon Webb has no solution to how to make Kingston a better place...it's all talking points.

As for me being there...I was there to take a few pictures and observe, that was all.

So who has the soultions? not your girl Shirley Whitlock? not your no comment Mayor Sottile? so please tell me their solutions to the problems in Midtown the only one who has even suggested a solution is Keller and his suggestion goes back 40 years and it did not work then and it won't work now just ask Hugh Renyolds.

Anonymous said...

"So who has the soultions? (sic)"

Mr. Blaber,

The solution I propose is not to be construed as a general solution for all situations that exist in all times and places. It is meant specifically for Mid-Town Kingston, NY, 2007:

Hire more police and aggressively enforce the law. Pay zero attention to allegations of "profiling", and - for the sole sake of erradicating quality of life crime in mid-town - put aside every political difference so that mayor, police, da and council maintain a totally united front.

Black or white, european or asian or latino ethnicity, working person or recipient of assorted state and federal money, so-called mentally-ill or not, married or single or shacking up, no children or one or more children or a dozen children by several different men or women...

If we catch you possessing, dealing or obtaining drugs, if we find out that you're hooking or looking for whores, if we come to know that you possess an unlicensed weapon... We're going to catch you and make you suffer in every way that is allowed by law and in every way that a good DA can possibly think up by referring to such law!

No pity. No excuses. No pandering. Punishment.

It's a sad thing that the people you may have grown up with or the people who are your relatives and friends are leeches on society. If you know what's good for you, you'd better get away from them and stay away from them for good. If you don't, then you will be arrested and tried for every stupid little thing that these people drag you into.

No pity. No excuses. No pandering. Punishment.

Take our city back. It can be done, and with full respect for the law. Do you know someone who's having a tough time? Befriend them so that they have someone to turn to beside their drug-dealing brother, their ex-girlfriend with the three "baby fatha's", their welfare fraud-committing "comadre". Give them a way out... if you can and if the safety of your own wife and children will allow for that.

Let's stop feeling sorry for people who have relied on and abused the structures set up to help them for years now, and put Kingston FIRST for a change!

Sam

Where is no-show shirley and not a word whitlock again and what has she done in our ward? what are her solutions? goals? accomplishments? so far? and who is her choice for DA? she claims she's here for the hard working midtowners not the hookers and drug dealers but if she attended a single neighborhood watch meeting she would know that the voters of this ward are demanding these problems get taken care of... she eats a pie one bite at a time but if the fourth ward was a pie she hasn't even taken a nibble yet, if all she can handle is one thing at a time then the job of alderman is not the job for her, we need a leader not another loser like our present alderman do nothing brown.

Anonymous said...

Sam,

Excellent, well said, and to the point. Drugs, violence, and criminal activity know no racial or religious bounds. If you don't want to do prison time, don't do the crime.

Anonymous said...

Shirley Whitlock sent a letter to every Democrat in the Fourth Ward and I quote, "I cannot say that I am prepared to help sweep the streets clean, help remove the drug dealers, help fix the pot holes or feed the hungry, I am not a superwomen" so we now know what she won't do, so what does she intend to do if she is elected? Does anyone know what she has done in this ward since she moved here two years ago?. She stated in this weeks Kingston Times " I am not going to say that we don't have problems", which I have never heard her address or have any solutions to those problems, But she goes on to state that "not everyone in Midtown is a drug dealer or a prostitute there are hard working people in Midtown and that's who I'll be serving if I'am elected", but she would know if she ever attended a Ward meeting or a City committee meeting that the people of the 4th Ward are demanding action be taken to improve the quality of life crimes in their Ward. will she take any action?.
Now as a revernd should she turn her back on the less fortunate? drug dealers? and prostitutes? did Jesus?.
And finally she says she can not eat a whole pie at once but must take ONE bite at a time well comparing the 4th ward to a pie I would have to say to Shirley when are you going to take the first bite ?.
If an alderman can not handle more then one thing at a time then the job is not for you, every month the Common Council has to make many decisions and if you can,t keep up, you and this Ward will be let far behind the rest. AS Alderman Clint Brown highly endorses Shirley remember how well he has done for the people of the 4th ward when it's time to vote!.

Matthew Ryan.

Again when ordinary citizens stand up and exercise their Constitutional rights, the Sottile loyalists make fun of them and ridicule them. A very consistent pattern of this Administration, by the way. The newspapers have many demeaning, dismissive and elitist comments by some of our elected officials when faced with citizen demanding equal protection and services.

Keller wants to attract the Middle Class in Midtown. After 20 years of being one of the Middle Class/Working Class here in Midtown, I have to wonder why his policies let it get this bad? Why Keller has not asked for more police, especially after the Steel House opened. Law enforcement from several depts have told Watch groups that the Steel House (One of Sottile's "successes") attracts trouble and requires increased police response. I wonder how the Chief could tell citizens they were only a couple of prostitutes in Kingston last summer. What does it say when he didn't know what was happening on our streets?

Sottile kept saying the problem was being exaggerated, being used for "political" gain. Seven shootings, stabbings, beatings, a raid that netted 30 plus ADULTS. Who exagerrated what?

Keep putting down the people who are willing to stand up. Show the world what an open, caring City we have with your judgemental, elitist attitudes and continue to wear blinders until the bullets hit your house, scare your family, kill one of yours. Then we'll see your true colors.

When a young black man was murdered on our streets, what did the Mayor say? What did our Common Council say? What resolution was passed? They barely noticed. The Mayor had more to say about artists then he did the cold-blooded murder of one of our youth.

Thank you to all the citizens who stood up and put themselves at risk. Thank you to all who honked and stopped for information. And thank you to URGENT and the KPD for doing the hard work with so little support from this Administration.

Anonymous said...

Part of the problem is that Chief Keller has his head up his ass. There are too many cops sitting behind desks when they should be out on the street catching the bad guys. Keller has cops doing jobs that citizens could do for less money (i.e., computers, bringing cars to get serviced, etc.) - so the rest of the KPD is working OT and the city is unprotected because Keller just wants to give special treatment to those who kiss his ass. The sad thing is that Mayor Sottile is letting him get away with it (and so is the Common Council and the Police Commission). Why doesn't the Common Council (and the Mayor and the Police Commission) look at who is doing what job at HQ? There are far too many cops in administration, contributing to the bloated budget that doesn't allow them to hire more beat cops.

Anonymous said...

if the cops busted half the crowd pictured in this post they'd probably have made a HUGE bite outta crime!!

Anonymous said...

If the cops beat more of these thugs with their nightsticks, there would be less crime in midtown.

We need more police brutality to bring order.
