Jon has the intellect to address the causes of crime, not just the effects.Very few people have that ability.I have the task too often of verbally eviscerating dopey public officials and I feel quite comfortable that I'll never have to do that to Jon.I'm disappointed that UC Democrats did not immediately recognize that he was the superior candidate.I will deal harshly with anyone who stands against Jon.I'm entitled to throw stones and I'm going to throw boulders(not literally.)Public denunciation of flawed ethics and poor moral values is perfectly legal and very effective.Sore losers like Bradley need to be intellectually tarred and feathered and shown what the "repugnant ones" call "hostility" in their political enviroment.PS No more Rove! No more executive privilege either!

I'll hold off meeting him, until he meets with the UCDM.

Strong words, ANONYMOUS. How about letting us who do not want Sennett know who you are, so we can 'Get out da way' when you come. OK?

to 122pm Sennett is the type of guy who would meet with any group or anyone so come on down. Sennett is true person of the people and seems to be at all community events that are going on.

joeyb: How do you know you don't want Sennett if you haven't met him?

Because he is endorsed by JB. LOL. (Although he did label him a 'progressive') Seriously, The Working Family 'Socialist' Party is a dead give away for me. I don't mind democrats in general, some are actualy, DARE I say it, conservative. It's their company that bothers me.

Well Joey B - it sounds as if you wouldn't vote for Jon Sennett even if you did meet him. You're conservative-leaning and will vote for Bradley anyway - you wouldn't go to a UCDM meeting even if there was one. But, if you met Jon and talked with him, not only would you like him as a person, you'd understand that his approach to the crime issues is not to just throw people in jail (which he certainly will do), but he'll work in bringing in programs that will prevent the crime in the first place. If you're a crime victim, though there is solace in the fact that the thug is in jail for many years, you'd prefer that the crime never took place at all. Carnright and Bradley have no ideas or approaches to being proactive - they just know how to be reactive. That doesn't reduce the crime rate, it just increases our jail population (and our taxes).

Well, 1209, it is up the the DA to PROSECUTE, not nescessarily to create 'programs' to reduce crime. What's he going to do? Open a midnight basketball down at the courthouse? Hey, if he opened it at the new jail, and had kids play up against inmates, that might be an idea. But I think that's up to the Sherrif.

I could have gone to the meeting (although, I think I'd feel my feet burning standing on such democrat soil, lol). And maybe, or maybe not, he'd tell me something I wanted to hear. But I still feel a stronger, more measurable, message is told by the company one keeps.

BTW, you're probably right, that I would like him as a person. There are very few people I have come in contact with, that I outright dislike. I may not like one's politics, but I am one of those who can separate politics from life.

Joey B - you seem to misunderstand the potential role of the DA - by sitting back and allowing the criminals to come to him, he's guaranteeing job security, but the complaints will continue about the crime rate (particulary in Kingston). Whose responsibility is it to reduce crime - the DA, the Mayor/town supervisors, the police chiefs? Why can't it be a joint effort?

The District Attorney is much more then a prosecutor, but a community leader and a role model for everybody. The simply fact is that Carnright is too soft to be D.A., he is not someone that strikes me as a person that can lead the office. I want a strong confident leader and that is Sennett, period.

From the dictionary:

District Attorney
Noun, "an officer who acts as attorney for the people or government within a specified district "

"an official prosecutor for a judicial district"

"The prosecuting officer of a judicial district"

I think you are all putting too much into the job description of a DA. I believe it's the Sherrif's/City Police's job to reduce crime, at the behest of county/city leaders.

Well then, Joey B, the sheriff and city/town leaders and police chief are not doing their jobs - can you do me a favor and look up their job descriptions? I would be very surprised if there was anything in the dictionary that said the executive branch's job is to reduce crime - so, is it the legislative branch's? Who's responsibility is it?

This is the kind of narrow minded, parochial thinking that leads to the overall increases in crime and decreases in the quality of life in a community.

"It's not my job...let him do it."

We ALL have a stake in crime prevention...and I want MY District Attorney to be a major player in that area. Jon Sennett is the only one in the race who is willing and eager to take on that job in ADDITION to his prosecutorial duties.
