Berardi continues to needlessly attack Supervisor Woerner

It seems that Mike Berardi for some reason is attacking Supervisor Nick Woerner every chance he gets. There was a comment Berardi made a few weeks go, in a local publication, that I ignored, and wrote off as tongue and cheek. However, after the article that appeared in this weeks Kingston Times I feel compelled to respond. In the article Legislator Berardi, said that he is unhappy with the way the town of Ulster is being run and if his situation was different and he didn't have a full time job he may of run for town Sup., now part of the reason may be that Berardi has a full time job but the other main reason is that he couldn't win in a primary against Woerner. Mr. Berardi's chief complaint seemed to be that he felt that Supervisor Woerner does not return his phone calls, hardly a reason to primary an incumbent supervisor. Furthermore, I find Mr. Berardi's claim very funny, even when Mr. Woerner and I are not getting along, which occasionally happens, he always returns my calls and I'm not even a constituant. Call me crazy but I think this is nothing more then Berardi wanting Woerner's job. It's a shame Berardi must unnecessarily add to all the infighting that already exists within the Democratic party.

Berardi has done a crappy job as legislator, there is no way he is smart enough to run Ulster. The county will be in better shape with Mike out of there.

Mr. Blaber, Please do some research. Nick has established a well deserved reputation for not returning phone calls. This is common knowledge to anyone and everyone who has any type of business or interaction with the Town of Ulster. It is a form of exclusionary, dictatorial and closed Government. In my opinion, it is a very good reason to challenge a sitting public official no matter who it is or what position they hold. Consider yourself one of Nick's insiders if he is returning your calls.

I do not believe for one minute having worked with Mr. Berardi on many high level projects, that he has taken this position lightly. He is far too intelligent and thoughtful a person for that. If I were to choose who I felt had the best interests of the Town of Ulster at heart, without a shadow of a doubt, it would be Mr. Berardi.
If Mr, Berardi decides to run for Supervisor, I would not be surprised at all if he beat anyone, no matter which party they are in easily. Mike has a sterling reputation and long term, proven track record of dedication, and work on behalf of, and to the town of Ulster. Mr. Berardi has been active in Town for many, many years. He has earned the right to voice his opinion. Yes, even if it does not put one of your heroes in the best light.

Berardi or Woerner? Berardi wins walking away. You may know Kingston, but you sure don't know Ulster if you think Woerner can beat Berardi.

Wrong, Mike beats the dog snot out Nickie!!!!

...Mr. Berardi's chief complaint seemed to be that he felt that Supervisor Woerner does not return his phone calls.... Oh so true!

Have you extended the courtesy of calling Mr. Berardi and asking him?

Berardi should not be underestimated. He is VERY popular. What's more, he has the right to criticize Woerner if he wishes.

I sent Mr.Berardi an e-mail about this a few weeks ago and wouldn't you know it... I never got a response back!

Let's Vote:

Mike Berardi - Yes

Nick Woerner - No

It Nick gets beat as bad as he is in the Wise - Woerner poll what does it tell you?

JB---never speak ill of Berardi. He's not only the most popular political figure in Ulster, he's also the most honest man in politics today.

One of the unspoken reasons for his not running for Supervisor is that there is an illness in his familiy. Mike is so old school that he won't talk about it in public. As a legislator he's the one guy who has straightend out public works and is without a doubt the cheapest guy in the legislature because he holds the line on spending even if it hurts. Ulster county lost a real champion when Berardi choose not to run again.

Berardi did not run because he would not have won againt Nick. It's as simple as that. Anything said otherwise is BS.

Run Mike, Run!

Stick to what you know:
1) Jim Sottile
2) Jon Sennett
3) Nick Woerner
4) Kingston Politics

Avoid what you don't know:
1) Town of Ulster Politics
2) Ulster County Politics
3) Gaging the popularity of a candidate based on Facts and History.

Your lust for the above mentioned people does not mean everyone feels like you do about them.

Whoever thinks Nick can beat Mike is either drunk or on crack.

One of Berardi's stances that is different from Nicks is his stance on the Homestead Act. This has failed miserably in Kingston and will fail almost anywhere it is enacted. Simply put it is only supported by those who have no concept of economics. Taxing businesses at a higher rate than residents onlt raises the price of the product that they sell. The consumer/resident now pays this higher price... so in effect they pay the tax anyway. Secondly the consumer/resident looks for a cheaper price and goes out of town and is able to purchase cheaper from a business not subject to homestead taxes. This reduces the volume of total sales that the local business makes thereby putting the small business out of business. If a small business sells something for $10 and makes 10% profit $1 and the homestead act causes the business a 10% tax increase the $1 profit initially made will now have to go to tax and the net profit is zero. The small business will have to raise his price to $11 and still only make $1. This means his profit NOW is only 9%... He is still loosing money from his initial 10% profit.
People in government making rules on tax things should be required to at least take economics 101 at UCCC so they have some clue as to how business works. Anyone who would support the homestead act has NO clue about economics or business.

Nick wants the Supervisor term to be 4 years along with the 4 council poitions. Our forefounders were very wise in that they had 2 council positions overlap terms so that the public could replace 50% of the board every 2 years. They made the supervisor term 2 years so that they could change supervisors every 2 years thus giving the voting public the ability to change the political flavor of the board by 60% every 2 years if they felt the previous administration was doing a poor job. The present system gives the power to the people. The 4 year supervisor term takes that away from the people and gives the power to the supvervisor. It allows the people to change only 40% of the board every 2 years unless it happens to be every other 4th year when the supervisor is up for election. The 4 year term benefits no one but the supervisor as he needn't go out an run for election and meet and greet the people. By interfacing face to face with the public that is the only way the supervisor keeps his/her pulse on the needs of the people.

So when anyone has a different opinion or way of doing things it becomes termed as a 'Needless attack'? Interesting misuse of terms. So in other words if one disagrees with Nick it is an attack? I don't think so... There are many ways to skin a cat... some are better than others... but if someone suggests a more efficient method it is not an attack but a teaching/learning experiance... NOT an attack.... If everyone felt as you about 'disagreeing or comming up with a better way' then Nick and you would have us all believing that the world is flat......

Mike Berardi is right. Nick is immature and needs Andy Zweben for everything he does.

Nick was hungry and ate his phone, that's why he didn't return the calls.

8:34, We need higher taxes to give more money to our Government so poor people can have a fair shake at the American Dream, so that our bridges won't fall down and kill us, so our sewers won't collapse, so our hard working government employees can have a living wage, so our elderly can have adequate health care, so that children won't be mal nourished, so equality can be the norm in America, not a priveledge given to those who won life's lottery by the birthright, I could go on. Taxes are the great equalizer to prevent the few from taking away from the many.

3:40 did you copy this from the Communist Manifesto?
Taxes are paid to a municipality to provide services such as police & fire, public roads, sewer & water, etc. They are not to provide for people who want something for nothing, those who feel the gov't owes them, or to provide equity between rich & poor. Where were you in Social Studies class? On crack?

3:43 You Republicans are all the same. Take from the poor so the rich will live in lavish luxury. Communism is the only way to insure that all people on Earth achieve true equality. If we all work together for the common good, then we won't have poverty, famine, and suffering. There is only so much gross wealth, and the acquirement of that wealth by a few, is criminal, in my opinion.

Historically communism doesn't work. It can't work. It is doomed to failure from the get go. There are many problems but one of the biggest is that the politicians, in order to please the poor and gov't employees, vote to give them more and more and more until the middle class can no longer afford to pay the high taxes and then the entire economic system collapses. READ YOUR HISTORY... Marxism initially sounded good on paper to many but was a miserable failure. Don't jusy read Marx but read the followup history about how devastating the failure was

To 8:34 - NYC has a 4-tier tax system. I am all for the homestead act, because commercial establishments use more govenment services. Commercial establishments can raise their prices when their operating costs increase - homeowners have no recourse to increase their income when their operating costs increase. When Central Hudson raises its rates or gasoline prices increase, the cost of doing business increases, and they will pass those increases on to the consumer. What does the consumer do when their costs (i.e., utilities, taxes, food, gasoline, etc.) increase? But, the 4-tier system in NYC takes into account that not-for-profits can pay something into the system - the law only requires that churches and governments are tax-exempt. Not-for-profits should pay less than homeowners and commercial establishments, but Kingston's problem is because there are too many tax-exempt properties. BUT - since this blog is supposed to be about Berardi vs. Woerner, it's really too bad that Berardi didn't go for it - Nickie has to go.

Ulster is not NYC. It isn't like there are any worthwhile jobs associated with the development that takes place in Ulster. Who protects the hundreds of small businessman in Ulster?

Anonymous said...

No one protects the small business owners in Ulster - chain stores are contributing to the demise of small businesses. The best way to protect the small businesses is to patronize them, even if it means spending a little bit (as long as it's not a lot) more money. And, support the businesses that support the community - if a business buys an ad for a ball field, sponsors a kids' sports team, or buys an ad on a t-shirt for an event, those are the businesses that are community-oriented. Boycott businesses that don't give back to their community. The Jordans (Herzog's) are very philanthropic. They give a lot to their community - I will shop there sooner than Lowe's or Home Depot. (And no, Ulster County is not NYC, but there's too much given away in Kingston. A lot of the United Way agencies are in Kingston because of its services - YMCA, Boy Scouts, etc., don't have to be tax-exempt. When they're not contributing, that means everyone else has to make up for it.)
