Cahill Calls For Six Debates... Are You Kidding Me?
GOP Candidate Richard Cahill has challenged Democratic Mayor James Sottile to six debates according to an article in the Daily Freeman today. Six debates, are you kidding me? Mayor Sottile has agreed to do three, which is more then generous. After all, in the 2004 race for President of the United States there were only three, Cahill wants six for a Kingston mayoral election. Not for nothing but Mayor Sottile has a city to run and simply does not have the time to host six debates. I wonder if Cahill really understands what he is running for and the amount of time and energy it takes to be mayor of the city of Kingston. Hey, I wish there were 10 debates, the more Cahill opens his mouth the better Mayor Sottile looks.

Not when it's no comment Sottile has he made up his mind on our new urban renewl advisor police chief Kellers plan-I think not.
TYPICAL OVER KILL BY LITTLE DICK. HE JUST WANTS FREE ADVERTISING B/C HE DOESN'T HAVE A POT TO PISS IN
The more debates the better. Jimmy isn't so busy running this City that it ever stopped him from having a rather full social life. Shouldn't stop him from standing before the citizenry a few times so they can judge his "successes" and his plans for the future. What is he afraid of? Looking foolish? He's done that. Looking insensitive? He's done that. Looking "passionate"? He did that too.
What are you afraid of Jimmy?
Why don't you start a debate on why Cahill is a republican? Does he believe in evolution? What about retro-active legislation, torture, executive privilege? How about the basis of republicanism, that allegiance to a subversive anti-democratic principle of restricting voting rights of the poor to favor the elite? If he cannot support the unethical basis of his own party, then he's just a an opportunist taking advantage of the lack of intelligence in the red party.Let's see a real republican show up anywhere in this country and take back their party by principle not just these leaches that try to benefit themselves at their follwers expense.A can't seem to find a republican anywhere that even understands the agenda they claim to represent.
3:04 What the hell are you saying?
I give you... six debates seem a bit excessive.
On the other hand, excusing the mayor on the grounds that he has a city to run is only to high-light the fact that he's a micro-manager.
It has been mentioned on this blog before. Get good, solid people, get them to trust your vision and you their ability to get the job done, and that solves a lot of problems.
Debate is an important part of the political process in the United States. If you don't have time for it, you shouldn't be running for office.
Comprimise is also a part of the political process. Cahill wants six debates and Sottile wants three. How do four or five sound?
Anyway, you get the idea.

What's wrong with challengin for 6 debates? Don't the people have a right to hear them debate?
As for Sottile lacking time, he could just stop playing golf on Thursday afternoons (on city time) for a few weeks.

Please consider this question. I'll revisit it at the end of my comments:
How many of the people arrested in the drug raid live in "affordable housing" and receive a variety of government benefits that you and I pay for?
Now,
"'It is easy to sit back and talk about gentrification, but I am the one on the front line who is (going to have to deal with) people who have no place to live," Sottile said.'"
That's from Mr. Kirby's article in today's Freeman. Let's see now, since when does it fall to a mayor to find people a place to live? You live where you fit in and where you can afford. If you don't fit in and you can't afford to live there, get out! It's easy: call your section 8 worker and tell him or her that you want to look for a new place. You look through state-wide listings, choose a place, section 8 will give you money toward a move, and you go and live where you will be happy. Case closed.
STOP THE ATTITUDE OF ENTITLEMENT!
Again, from Mr. Kirby, in today's Freeman, "'He said Keller's plan needs participation of nonprofit agencies like the Rural Ulster Preservation Co., which develops affordable housing."
STOP! Don't remove any more properties from the taxrolls! No more nonprofits! They are the source of the problem! They don't give a hand up; they only give hand outs, and they are self-perpetuating! No more affordable housing! They invite riff-raff! If you want to afford a certain type of housing, get a job! No credentials? Go to school or get apprenticed in a trade! If your lifestyle and your perception of culture make that difficult or impossible, then abandon that lifestyle and that way of looking at culture and start new!
One final quote from the same author and article"'Hillary Clinton said it takes village to raise a child,' Sottile said. 'Now, as mayor, I know exactly what she was talking about.'"
It does NOT take a village, Mr. Mayor. Know what it takes to raise a child? Two married people who are committed to each other and to building a future for themselves and their posterity! Get a few of those, and they help each other and urge each other onward to build a successful and happy community.
So, again, how many of those people I mentioned at the beginning of my comment are surviving on the taxpayers' dime? These are the people that Jimmy feels obligated to deal with and the agencies that he feels it necessary to partner up with!
The social service mentality is killing Kingston! STOP THE MADNESS!

I think Cahill's issue, at least from the Freeman article, is that he wants all of the debates to be public.
I think Clint Brown should moderate
the debate
If I wanted to write in Clint Brown
how would I do that?
It's "compromise" not "comprimise"and social programs will get back in check when the republican party gets out of the driver's seat and starts acting like the party of fiscal sanity, libertarianism and elitism from the back seat where they belong.Their absence of sanity brought on by unfettered greed has left them unable to perform their much needed task of checking the socialist leanings of the Democrats.Harry A has no intelligent voice speaking for him.
BTW If Cahill were to rebuke his own party and proclaim his inheritance to the republican party prior to this ridiculous theocratic plank,I could easily propel him into much higher office than mayor. They're looking for a hero and we need a competent adversary. The next republican president will look more like a democrat.
You may be right about Republican greed, but Sottile's comments stand on their own. Does the government pay your living expenses? Right, mine neither. So why does he think it should pay for anybody else's? Let them go to Newburgh or Poughkeepsie. If not, Kingston will continue growing in its reputation as a social service paradise, and we will continue these raids every so often for years and years. After all, how long do you figure before the spots left by the arrested drug dealers/buyers are filled by new scum?
Spelling was never my best subject. I'll try to do better.

It takes a village to vote out a mayor!
as far as debates go, one of the 3 is the Chamber of Commerce in which 1 hour is alotted. Of that, each candidate speaks a self-efacing piece followed by questions from the audience which are set-ups. What a waste of time! How about ONE DEBATE, set up at MidTown Neighborhood Center with the public invited and questions from the floor. Truth be told, Sottile is afraid to face a lawyer who debates for a living. Besides which, Sottiles positions are untenable at best. The only way Sottile knows how to debate is to scream at his advesary..........so mature!
Harry A I agree with you completely on the entitlement issue.Time for a new work program for rent credit complete with drug testing and specific skill training.Countywide this would be beneficial and might be a way to get some work done.I think this an element of Sennett's theory of justice.Something you might expect from a republican of my parent's generation, sadly no more.
Sottile should be willing to debate more. He owes it to the citizenry. I applaud Cahill for being willing to express his positions and answer questions from the people.
are all the cahill's going to debate?
it takes a little dick to give us some laffs
Sottile is a man that we can all respect. It's almost beneath him to share the same room as Cahill the lightweight.
1:37, do you hear music when Sottle enters the same room you're in? Does his head glow with a halo for you? You have got to be kidding, his sh*t smells just like the rest of us.
Regarding the comment of 4:24; what is Jimmy's degree in? What'd he do for a living before politics?
has little dick been cleaning men's rooms lately?
I'm somewhat new to the area. I am quite interested to know the answer to the question you raised. What DID Mayor Sottile do before or during his alderman-at-large position for employment? Does he hold any academic degree?
WHO CARES WHAT DEGREE HE GOT? I WANNA KNOW HOW LITTLE DICK GOT A LAW DEGREE - WHAT A JOKE!
I believe Mayor Sottile has a degree in business administration.
A business degree. Interesting. If that is true - and I think that a mayor's curricum vitae ought to be right out there for us all to see - then it makes perfect sense.
Jimmy approaches his job as mayor as if he were a member of middle management in some large corporation. No regard for workers. No regard for clientelle. His all-consuming goal is moving from middle to upper management.
And, whatta' ya' know? Jimmy bringing all these infernal ss agencies, transforming mid-town into a true ghetto that relies on such services, and continuing to invite a lower class of people into Kingston HAS paid off for him! Upper management of the democratic party in the person Hillary has awarded him this committee position!
Good work, Jimmy Boy!
Hang your head in shame, Kingstonians!
Do the right thing, voting public!
I believe that Mr. Cahill earned his degree from Albany Law School.
If memory serves, his undergraduate degree is a BA in history and political science, summa cum laude, Mt. St. Mary College.
Having worked two + years with the Ren DA's office, 5 + years with Ryan, Roach and Ryan in Kingston, and having done a ton of cases privately in many different legal disciplines, I think he's eminently more qualified than "Jimmy" with whatever undergrad degree he may have!
Jimmy doesn't have an undergraduate degree - but just because you went to college doesn't mean you're qualified to run a city. Conversely, not being a college graduate doesn't mean you can't run a city. Don't confuse education with intelligence - but, Jimmy has neither!
Education is not equivalent to intelligence, true enough. But obtaining some sort of professional credential does demonstrate a willingness and ability to commit to something long term, and does give one the tools - if he will only use them - to make informed decisions.
