GOP CANDIDATE USES "N" WORD ON LIVE TV
Phil Cosme who has used his tv show to raise money, attack and harass the Mayor and other elected officials, unwarrantably, has sunk to a new low. Mr.Cosme apparently feels it is appropriate to utter racial obscenities on his tv show, which he did multiple times on his Wednesday show. When confronted by a concerned African American, who called into his show, Mr. Cosme tried to justify the unjustifiable comment by saying the word is in the dictionary. The question is how will the KPA commission handle the situation, thus far the KPA has done nothing to him becasue if they take action against him he threatens and intimidates the members.
At this point it has gone too far, Mr. Cosme has crossed the line and the commission needs to take immediate action. The KPA must suspend Mr.Cosme's program and in it's place they should hold some sort of program on tolerance and diversity. I encourage all people to contact your elected officials listed below, and ask that action be taken on this matter or that the plug be pulled on the cable commission. If the cable commission refuses to do it's job then it's time to hand the operation back to Time Warner.
Mayor James Sottile - mayor@ci.kingston.ny.us
KPA Chair, Lisa Alt - lisalalt@hotmail.com
The e-mail addresses for Kingston Aldermen are as follows:
ward + the number they represent @ci.kingston.ny.us, for example Alderman Teetsel who represents Ward 1, would be ward1@ci.kingston.ny.us
More disturbing, Mr.Cosme is running for Alderman. Can you imagine this guy as a public servant? The last thing we need is a bigot on the council. Also the last thing the GOP needs is a bigot running on their ticket, an unfair stereotype often associated with the party. I call upon Mr.Cahill, Mr.Walker, and all other Republican candidates to denounce Mr.Cosme's actions. How can they allow someone like this to associated with them.

coke-me is a low-life troll...what do you expect?
what a racist! I'm sending an e-mail to Jenifer Ringwood just to ask her where I can send a check to her reelection bid! I also am contacting the Mayor at this point to complain about the situation, but if Cahill does not denounce these comments I will make a donation to Sottile. Cahill is another one who refuses to hold his own accountable.
Mr. Cosme obviously feels comfortable in his political environment being the scourge of society. It's an endemic problem with repugnant ones that they surround themselves people of low moral character and can't recognize their own unethical behavior or the consequences there-of.Shame on them.
Can you please explain in what context the word was used? Quite frankly it is unacceptable in any context. But if Cosme was referring to someone else using the word, or was commenting on how offensive the word is, or was making some lame attempt at sociological commentary, that is all quite different than if he called the person by that offensive name. I'm just curious where he was coming from. Thanks.
You have allowed Yankee James the racist to post on your site. Why haven't you dneounced him?
I don't remember George Carlin including this word in the 7 words you don't say on TV. I suppose everyone here should contact HBO studios, to cancel Chris Rocks's contract. I mean, "Fe Fi Fo Figgers, boy I hate ..." sounds pretty insensitive.
Senator Byrd (dem) of South Carolina was a KKK member, for Gods sake.
We have become such a hypersensitive society, it is destroying us! Who needs terrorists to break up this country, we do fine from within.
Maybe George Carlin should come out with the "100 or so words" ALLOWED on TV. Because it will come this this, government approved nouns. You all want Freedom of Speach, EXCEPT when ... Give me and the less sensitive Americans a break.
There is no such thing as "freedom of speach." Your evocation of the supernatural illustrates clearly that you have serious mental indoctrination issues that cloud your judgement and impede your course of logical thought.
I've been known to use the dreaded "N" word myself on our weekly radio show. (Free Talk Live)
What other word could one possibly use to describe Michael Vick or OJ Simpson? ;)
Is there video available of Phil Cosme using this horrible word?
joeyb...
If you can characterize being offended by that word as "hypersensitive," then you are a complete moron as well as a racist.
I'm white and I'm offended by it, so I can only imagine how offensive it is to black people.
Do a little etymological research and it's clear that the word can never be construed as anything BUT offensive, regardless of who is using it.
Example, Dane Cook on comedy central and his 'Rant on Catholics'
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=3035954
It's hiliarious, and I'm a Catholic. Some may find it offensive, but there is no huge outrage over it. Imagine if it were a skit on Islam. People just need to get out of their political correctness fanaticism
NO ONE should ever say that word
Listen to any uncensored rap song, they say the "N" word at least 50 times. Oh, I see... it's a double standard. As a man of mixed racial heritage, I've been called the N word before, as well as other derogatory names, like Oreo Cookie, Zebra, Uncle Tom, etc. The best thing we can do is not to censor someone like Mr. Cosme. A few years ago he came very close to actually winning the alderman job.
Racists should be exposed for who they are, and I believe in this era of political correctness, many racists have gone "underground". So let them spew their hatred. This way, we can exposed them, confront them, and never , ever, elect them!!!!!
We can't choose our ancestors.
LEAVE IT TO PHIL DUH FELON - WHAT A TOTAL LOSER
I don't find Dane Cook all that funny, even when he's NOT denigrating some specific group.
I grew up Catholic but don't practice any more, and I find that particular "bit" offensive.
It has nothing to do with whether you're Catholic, it has to do with whether you're an ignorant, low-life. Anyone with half a brain and a modicum of compassion for their fellow human being, finds none of those kinds of rants amusing.
As far as those dreaded "rappers," yeah...it's offensive when they use the word too.
In fact, many of the black people I have spoken with find it even MORE offensive when another person of color uses that term, than when a white person does. Especially older black men and women, it saddens them to see it "mainstreamed."
Richard Pryor, who used the word profusely during much of his career, stopped saying it. And to his dying day said one of his greatest regrets was perpetrating the lie that it's ok for one "brother" to call another by that name.
I'll say again, do some research and then try to tell me how it can EVER be viewed as something other than offensive.
Oh, now the "you must be a racist" card is being used. Why? because you have NO WAY TO debate my point logically. The only thing more pathetic than pulling that card, is pulling that card behind an anonymous user.
It makes me a racist, because I believe in the old "Sticks and stones" axiom? Anyone who can be forever wounded by a word, any word, is the moron.
Stupid analogy...
Attempting to humorously point out some of the hipocrisies inherent in major religions, is a far cry from using a word that was coined for the sole purpose of indicating that someone is less than human.
And Cook isn't all that funny anyway...
How can "Machete" Phil Cosme use that word and get away with it. More importantly, WHY ARE WE ALLOWING HIM TO GET AWAY WITH IT?!? Didn't a famous radio personality recently get fired for making racial comments? This moron, Phil needs to be locked up for good. Will somebody please do something about this former drug dealer loser???
902, I understand your point, even though your ignorant, low life comment (if I read your comment correctly) is unfair. And, I said that some people MAY be offended. My point (which was not clear) was we're not running out on the streets, screaming for blood, like the oportunists here on the blog.
Last post on this highly volatile issue. Seeing how the "you're a racist" card is being used.
First, 928 is correct. What was the context? If a republican was reading the words from Ne to No in the dictionary, he could be said to have said the "N" word. If it were a dem, well, it wouldn't be reported.
Lastly, what's worse? Cosme using the N word, or Sottile throwing a drink at a woman? The same people here, ready to carry the torches and pitch forks to KPA, and demand Cosme body be thrown to them, were cautiously quiet during the Mariners incident. There were even calls to BOYCOTT Mariners. I ask again, which was worse? A rhetorical question, because there are morons, or I mean oportunists here who think name calling by a republican is by far more newsworthy than physical harm by a democrat.
JoeyB is another one of Clint Brown's Love Children.
One Love...JoeyB
Joeyb is not a happy camper nor will he ever be. His lack of education and moral values make him unfit for the society that he now has to endure. His "low-brow" manner used to be socially acceptable behavior in this neck of the woods. Now he has become a circus freak, unable to free himself from the chains of his own mental indoctrination. These throwbacks to a bygone era should have cashed in and left this area long ago.It is sad that parents like me have to explain to their children that time has passed some people by.That their moral and ethical standards are too low to effectively co-exist with modern man and that when they grow up they will also be saddled with a contingent of mentally deficient "worker class" pawns to have to deal with.It can be depressing to hear that after we discovered the fact that the earth was round roughly 13,000 years ago, there are still "flat earthers" among us.
Hey Joeyb!!!!
See you at the Next Clint Brown
family get together!
I will tell you exactly what Cosme said. I am the first to say I am NO FAN of this fool. However, he was upset that the Freeman mentioned the fact that he was a convicted felon and he gave $25.00 to Cahill's campaign. He said, "They (Freeman) won't use the word nigger, but they keep mentioning a person's past when they had made a mistake and paid the penalty....this is bigotry." He rambled on for awhile about the bigotry against HIM....again making no logical sense.
Now, the man is clueless....and when ?Jamal, or so he said his name was, called in to say Cosme was being racist...Cosme again said the word..."Nigger? It's in the dictionary.....look it up. It's not the word, it is how it is used."
So there you have it. His logic is upside down,....but he wasn't calling anyone the "N" word......
The bigger concern is his combative attitude and his combative actions...including the Republican committee meeting where he verbally attacked the chairwoman, Jean Jacobs. "HEY LADY (finger pointing) WHAT's YOUR PROBLEM? Mr. Cahill sat there and allowed it. No one challenges the hostility of this fool, including Richard Cahill Jr.
I recognize that condescending, "I am better than thou", "I am higher on the food chain than you" attitude expressed by 742. New Paltz resident Steve Greenfield. Ulster County? The forefront of some kind of evolutionary explosion of higher thinking individuals? Right!
Elitists like you, are so hypocritical, you preach tolerance, and equality. But as soon as you come across an opposing view point, you resort to low brow tactics of name calling in atempt to discredit the oposition. Steve, you consider people with conservative view points as less than your level of evolution. Sounds just like why some people consider the 'N' word so offensive.
Tell you kids this, Steve. I have 14 nieces and nephews, and my brothers and sisters are just like me. So they SHOULD be afraid, very afraid.
No one said he called someone a niger but he went on a wild rant and used the word on tv several times! That's just as bad, I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Definately see you at the clint brown family reunion. See www.clingbrown.net for details.
CB LC #3
Sounds like Steve Greenfield's a lot smarter than you are joeyb. And your family information only tends to show you're better suited to a third world country. When we start regulating the birth of people like you we'll solve that problem.
Joeyb, don't confuse elite with elitist. We elite don't favor the elite,we already have everything and don't need the help.Elitists are the wannabes that think they can attain status by putting down others.Big difference.Elitists never become the elite because the road to financial success doesn't lead there,it just leads to more work.
711, China regulates birth. And they're sooo much better off than we are. Looks like there is one language that is understood here, so I'm going to have to bring it down some. You sir, are a Richard Cranium! (do the math)

We're Back!
Yes joeyb in the nine years since the discovery of the defective neurological pathways in the brain leading from the amygdala to the temporal lobes,it has become apparent that carriers of this defect and particulaly the most severe cases, are responsible for putting religious/conservative views up as intellectually valid.Something that any one with a normally functioning brain would instantly recognize as bigotry.Since only 10% of the worlds population is free from this defect,it is difficult promote ideal ethics and morals. Now regulating birth is not popular, but the premise of a representative republic that restricts the right to vote based on peoples' financial status is universally condemned. When the founding fathers designated vested landowners, you had to be smart to be one, therefore the concept was to put the smartest people in charge. If the republicans would just get back to their intended position,we wouldn't be having this debate.
Mr. Blaber,
I did not see the show in question. If things were as you say, then Mr. Cosme ought to be censured in some fashion, and the particulars ought to be determined solely by the published policies of KPA. If penalties imposed under such policies still allow him to remain on the air, then I would encourage those who find him or his speech distasteful to change the channel.
As for "tolerance" and "diversity", I can think of a few inappropriate comments I'd like to express about those two words. I will, however, be enough of a gentleman not to do so on your nice blog.
These two buzz words are responsible for more societal problems that most liberals will care to admit and most conservatives will dare to confront.
The idea that I ought to be open to the good, the bad and the ugly - and give them all equal billing - just for the sake of diversity and tolerance is absolutely ludicrous!
If a person, place, thing or idea has some good in it (or at very least is not all bad), I'll take a look, and take a reasonable position on it that supports the interest of me and my own. I will not think myself narrow-minded, however, if I use my common sense to avoid someone, someplace, or something that is plainly against my own interest and that of my dear ones.
Again, I did not see Cosme's show, and the opinion I expressed above should not be thought to reflect any approval of his comments if they are as you report.
