A ride through Mid Town and Uptown Kingston in the 1960's. It really shows Kingston's great beauty.
That's pretty cool Blaber. But it showed that not much has changed. Except for the Strand. Looked pretty dismal back then. And Uptown seemed to be really bustling.
Sadly, it seems the only things that have changed in 40 years are the cars and the growth of bums on Broadway. This City's attitude is stagnant. Many want to keep the good ol' days, and, while its a nice concept, its not realistic. A failure to modernize, to keep up with changing times, and allow controlled growth, has helped put us in the tough times we are now in.
Well I gotta tell you that was great...Did anyone else notice that there were no people pushing carts down the street, or hanging out on the corners doing nothing?there were actually business signs and not for rent or lease signs..Please show us more and maybe someon else will notice that we are now a ghetto and catering to the system leeches. We need to become business first, welfare and social service second if you need it, not because you are lazy and want it.It was a great video, I am sorry I saw things that no one wants to talk about...
I saw the same things, 1:01. Back in the day, people took PRIDE in the work they did. Perhaps not joy, but pride. And one was embarassed NOT having a job, and looked ardently for work, and took what became available. Digging ditches for CSX or an engineer at IBM. didn't matter, a working man was a happy man.I didnt' go to school, and take up a difficult curriculum, do homework all hours of the night because it was FUN. I did it, voluntarily, to prepare myself for a LIFE OF WORK! And, I paid for it, myself, by working year round. You know 1:01, there are people who NEED social services. This is America, and they should be helped. But the 'progressives' in this country have expanded the definition of 'need' to mean simply 'poor' or 'disadvantaged' and that includes by your own inaction or account. What they (progressives) can't see, is that expanding social services to anyone who can put their hand out, drains resources away from those who trully in NEED.
The old county office building was still in the foreground up until early 1970, so this film was probably shot in 1970.Hissy TorianIf you venture far enough into the wine cave, you'll find a portal to the past. If you are willing to risk it all, it may be worth it.
It was like watching the Zapruder film. Was that a young TR Gallo on the grassy knoll of KHS?Jack Ruby
A lot has changed - traffic lines and crosswalks show up in the film and the pot holes we have now were not in this picture and yes the Mayor then didn't drive around sucking taxpayer money in an SUV along with many Department heads.
